Help Launcher Pro question

Using Launcher Pro, is there any way to make an icon or widget on one of the screens which is little more than a string of text? I am looking for a way to "label" one of the home screens in Launcher Pro. I would like it to look something like the shape of the Google Search widget - just a narrow bar with text on it.

hmmm...there may be an app somewhere out there for this, but I have an idea...You could make the label in GIMP or some other software and then place it on your SD card, then use the built in "Picture frame" widget to place it on your homescreen

Actually as I started playing around with Launcher Pro I ran across multiple ways to get close to what I want. Somewhere I ran into its "Activities" available in the home screen shortcut menu, during a posting I found which mentioned how to turn on the Ally camera LED (which all of the flashlight apps I had tired pre-rooting failed to do). So now I can do that with a single tap to a shortcut. It uses the com.lge.LGHiddenMenu / Flash LED On/Off activity selection, set as a Lancher Pro shortcut icon. (There are oodles of things to explore in there!)

So in similar operation I made a shortcut/activities/GMail/GMail Label as the 'label' for each screen. It looks like a little luggage tag icon and lets me display up to 11 characters as its "icon text". Not exactly what I wanted, but it works.

I was browsing a website with android apps last night (some of which are also on the market) and saw one called Minimalistic Text. That does exactly what I wanted, but they do not allow you to make a custom text display with just text. All their options are tied to the clock or calendar.

So for now I guess I'll stick with the GMail Labels.

I use a little widget called "Simple Text Widget" by hongs and it does exactly that. Pretty simplistic tho, not many settings. I tried a fancier one, but it tried to put the same text on every homescreen. This one at least does different text on each.

You might also search for "note widget" or something that lets you leave notes to yourself on the screen. That might work.

Thanks! I just installed it and am trying it out. So far it seems to want to use the entire width of the screen to display the text widget. Since I am only intending to use a single digit number, this seems a little weird. Have you found any way to resize the widget and make it narrower?

Aha! Launcher Pro will allow me to resize widgets "IF" I buy the retail version, so I did that.

Thanks again!

maybe a lower tech solution but, couldn't you just insert text onto your phone wallpaper with the label you want? of course, it might be harder to change on the fly if that's what you want. but it would use less of your processor than another widget on each screen, and less SD card space.

also you'd have more room on your screen for apps or other widgets, as the label would be part of the background and could be displayed between icon spaces.

That would be an interesting idea. I would have to look into the files for the wallpaper and see how much of an issue trying to edit one of them might be. If I went that route, I think I would want to use a nearly transparent sort of "watermark" digit which could be in the center of each home screen and mostly transparent. But as it stands, buying the $2.99 unlock code for Launcher Pro Plus allows me to re-size the widgets mentioned above so they take up only the space of one icon. So not too bad.
