Launcher problems--almost nightmares!!!

Howdy,
I tried- go launcher pro and found it very complicated and cluttered so i unistalled and I downloaded ADW launcher. It seemed to be what I was looking for much simpler and less cluttered, that is until I was trying to place an icon onto the dock bar. The app drawer launcher was accidently pushed out of the dock bar and disappeared! Nothing I could find to do, would make it "re-appear" and I had NO VISIBLE ACCESS to the app drawer to unistall adw launcher or anything else for that matter!!. Didn't matter what button I pushed the app drawer buttons /shortcuts/ icons0 were GONE.
Thankfully I had a short cut to the app manager on the "desk top", and I could go in and uninstall the adw launcher app and get my stock launcher back so I could use my phone!!
so I am back with my stock launcher, and stuff on the dock bar that I don't want there, and can't remove. I wanted to add stuff to my Stock launcher "desk top" and opened the "Add" button. It asked if I wanted a widget added to the desk top, or a short cut.
What is the difference between a widget being on the dest top or a shortcut??
Is zeam a good launcher? I do not want a repeat of what happened with adw launcher where I almost had a major boo--boo where I couldn't access anything!!
Appreciate your help!---thanks

In ADW, to get the App drawer back, long press on the desktop and select "Launcher Actions" then push "Open/Close App Drawer". It recreates the app drawer shortcut.

A widget runs in real time, and can update to show you current information (like current temperature, time, etc). A shortcut is like a shortcut in windows...it's static - it doesn't change.

Zeam is ok, but it has fewer features than ADW. I have, use, and love ADW. Zeam just was underpowered in comparison.

jerofld, Thanks for the tip concerning ADW and getting back the app launcher!
Concerning Widgets, I put- go sms messaging on my phone and the "add" feature asked if I wanted to put a widget, short cut or whatever on the "dest top". It appears I simply put the whole program on the 'desk top" not the widget. It that the thing to do? I want the go sms messaging program to notify me when I get messages, and be able to message from the desktop without having to open my app drawer.
Another thing I find annoying is that when I am trying to use Wi-Fi, sometimes I get a bad connection, ( in our area bad connections are common even with Wi-Fi, often our technology here is still in the stone ages) and it crashes and I have to open the app drawer-settings-Wi-fi---ect just to see what the connection is doing and then try to go back to what ever down load I was working on before it crashed. I would like to put a short cut or something to the settings or wi-fi- app.
Is that possible?
thanks for advice!

OP, there should be an option within ADW to toggle whether or not you can swipe away the dock bar. Turning that option off should go a long way towards preventing it from disappearing in the future. Regarding your Wi-Fi, depending on what phone you have you may already have a Wi-Fi related widget. You could also do a search within Google Play to see what you could find. I ran a search for "Wi-Fi widget", got a ton of hits, and thought this one might help you:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rb.wifiwidget

My $.02: I tried both LPP and ADW. Had ADW the longerof the two, but eventually became frustrated by its limitations. There's a ton of replacement launchers on the market, some paid and some free. It takes just a little research to find the one you think will be right for you.

Full disclosure: I've been using GO Launcher EX for well over a year now and have been quite pleased with it. It does everything and nothing I don't. I found all the options a little intimidating at first, but like everything elde it just taking a little play time to get used to all the features. Plus, the dev team offers constant support for issue. Really nice. Give it a try if you haven't already.
