launcher questions

Would love to put a launcher on my GNex, but have questions & some reservations .

1. Exactly how many launchers can you out on a phone? I have found some themes I would to have in my phone, some require Go Launcher EX or AWD Launcher.

2. When I read the list in the Agree & Install portion, I am more than a bit concerned when they say malicious parties can call from(?) my phone or use my contact info maliciously without my knowledge or consent.

Really? So why would this be allowed & why would people install these?
I haven't read the fine print on Nova launcher. Are all launchers subject to this?

Both apps say the exact same thing for each box I have shown. Perhaps it really never happens, but makes me uneasy. Bad thing is this disclaimer is in a lot of apps I have looked at. I am surprised that both Google & the developers allow this. Surely code can be written so that 3rd parties can't randomly access & used your info.

Maybe I am overly concerned?!:o

You're overly concerned. Any app must detail the permissions it needs in order to be able to run. You must grant permission to use the app.

It's up to you to gauge whether the app needs that function. A cute bunny rabbit game that you found on a website and sideloaded that wants access to SMS, contacts, internet and email is probably malicious (although it may just have various sharing options which you can invoke).

On the other hand, a launcher from the Play Store with thousands of reviews is unlikely to be anything to be concerned about.

The launchers you mentioned aren't malicious.

It is warning you not to give these permissions to malicious software, which is not the case here.

1: As many as you wish. I sometimes run 4 to 5 launchers. I use HomeSmack to switch between them when I get bored of one.

2: Being overly cautious is OK, as long as you understand when to be overly cautious. http://androidforums.com/android-applications/36936-android-permissions-explained-security-tips-avoiding-malware.html
