LBS Cheating?

[AndroidProfessor]

I've been using a few location based apps such as NDrive, Color, and Sherpa. They each provide services based upon your GPS coordinates. NDrive lets you navigate and check in on Foursquare, Sherpa offers cupons etc.

My questions is: it possible to manufacture a GPS signal? Can i have my chip speak with these apps telling them I am somewhere im not? To use foursquare or get cupons in a different location then I am.

Any insight would be appreciated. Cheers.

Location Spoofer app if you are rooted.

LBS isn't always specifically GPS. Many LBS apps and services can use other methods of determining your location.

@Sitlet: hmm I am not rooted.

@takeshi: I'm starting to understand that. From what I know it's usually GPS signal but can be assisted GPS (Using cell towers) to locate a person.

I was just thinking that this could be very interesting if someone wanted to 'fake' an emergency. Ping their location elsewhere and use an emergency call broadcasting a different location. Could cause some headache I suppose.

Does anyone have a non-rooted app suggestion?
