Leaked 5.7.893 Full update (.886 --> .893)

OK, it's been leaked, and I've done it. The steps are pretty simple, and this applies for those who want to be rooted and those who do not.

For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all:
  1. Use this post R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers to get your system reverted to true OOB stock
    • This file will revert your BIONIC to stock. It can do it as plain stock or as rooted stock or as 43v3r rooted stock, your choice, all in one.
    • Extract the files in the archive to a folder and then run R3L3AS3DRoot.bat and follow the prompts carefully
  2. Use this file http://www.mediafire.com/file/ah4t6ruiksupuun/Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip to upgrade to 5.7.893 - place it on SDCard-ext, not internal
    • You'll need to boot into stock recovery:
    • Power off phone
    • With phone powered off, press and hold Vol Up AND Vol Down
    • Press the Power button
    • In the menu select Recovery
    • At the triangle, press BOTH Vol Up and Vol Down
    • Move down (vol down) to install update from .ZIP
    • Use Power button to select
    • Select file

For users who have previously applied any update and now the reversion to 5.5.886 blocks the full 5.7.893 update, and users for whom the above did not work:

  1. Depending upon which update you have installed, pick the next increment from the files below and update via stock recovery
  2. Now, go to the top and follow the procedure above titled For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all:

Turns out, three is a caveat here - obviously only for rooted users who have messed around with the other partitions (like Webtop) on their phone:

Read this: xda-developers - View Single Post - Easily upgrade to 5.7.893, keep root AND Webtop now :)

So, if you've customized your Webtop partition (or any other partition for that matter) then it's possible that your update will not take, and you'll need to revert fully to stock before before attempting the updates.

Just went through it. That was a journey for me coming from D3blurr.

I actually had to flash every single update and the new one you just posted to get my Bionic to take the update files. So a total of 4 update zips for me. :(

I kept getting an installation abort message if I tried to go straight to the full update.

So just in case anyone is coming from a custom Rom, you might need to flash all the files via the stock recovery to get your Bionic to take the updates. It's a chore, now I'll see if it was worth it.

I'm gonna stay stock rooted for a little while to test this new build out.

John- Did you try the webtop hack yet? If you haven't you should, it's pretty cool. I'm like totally hooked on it....and my TV too. Get it?!?! :p
 
Hey guys. Quick question if you don't mind. I have not rooted yet because I haven't taken the time to study up on the process for the Bionic and don't like to jump into things like this un informed.

I am trying to install the latest leak because if I don't get these connection issues straight I just may guve this phone the "Flight Test"!
Downloading the file above and it says it is 5.5.886. Isn't this the version the phone is already running? Do I need a different file? Thanks and sorry if this has been asked already.
 
I too am running the out of the box unrooted configuration. My question is since I'm not rooted do I skip step 1 and pickup the above instructions with step 2?

Just a quick question for those of us who are unrooted. What happens when we have this installed and the ota update is pushed out?

The naming scheme from Motorola has always been (according to sources) the version of system firmware that the update applies to. Since this update applies to 5.5.886, i is named 5.5.886.

Side note - I actually like that better - This way you know exactly what your phone needs to have on it in order to use the update.

If the OTA is pushed out soon, and it has a newer version number, then it should simply update what it needs to update and leave the rest alone, provided that Motorola releases multiple versions (like .886 -- .XXX and .893 --> .XXX). If they only release a file that will take users from .886 on, we'll probably have to use the R3L3AS3DRt method even if you are not rooted in order to revert to .886 in order to get the OTA update.

As I've stated before, usually, as long as your system files are <= (less than or equal to the required version number that the patch requires, the patch will move forward. Sometimes this does not hold true, as when the patch is written only for specific versions of files (like this 5.7.893 full update - you need to be on 5.5.886 only).

For unrooted folks, the options are limited. I understand that MyBackupPro/Lite can do it, but only so much without root. Titanium Backup requires root. Making a Nandroid backup requires root and a custom recovery. I'm sure there are other options (Such as the apps by Ritesh Sahu - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result AND https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore&feature=search_result AND https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore&feature=search_result will help because they do not need root. There may be others as well....

I've already had the 5.7.893 radios, and they are a wonderful thing. As for everything else, 8 MP pics are nice and fast (but always were for me)....
 
I just flashed this. The link is 5.7. Anyway it worked fine. Not sure if it fixed connection yet because Im on WiFi
 
Lol read my reply to you - the naming scheme puts the system firmware that is being updated not what the update takes you to - so you have a good idea of what your firmware needs to be in order to update.
 
OK i get to the poin that it says installing update then I get assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint")=="verizon/targa_vzw/cdma_targa:2file_getprop("/system/build.prop",.......
 
You use a file manager to copy / move them from sdcard to sdcard-ext...

The BIONIC has one built in, called (appropriately) files, but I personally use Root Explorer since I am rooted, and it allows me to select multiple files and copy / move them.

Oh, wait, Files also allows for multiple select (meaning you select multiple files and then copy / move / delete / etc all of them at the same time).
 
That is what I did, just thought there might be a setting where they would automatically be saved to by external card. On my X, they always went to the ext card.

On your X, did it have internal storage as well? (Never had an X, so...)

Most apps are hardwired to save to /sdcard/ - well, this is now the name of the internal storage, and the external is now called /scard-ext so it can confuse apps - even system apps, apparently.
 
Added a bit more to the OP - cellzealot has been working hard to figure out why most revert and flash procedures are working but why it's still a no go for some - and I'm pretty sure he's got most of it figured out now.

Are you one 5.5.886? Have you changed anything in your system at all, including things like applying the WebTop hack?
