Learning Curve

ray6279

Newbie

I have been on a learning curve. Fairly proficient with desktops and laptops. Format hard drives, load OS, Programs, configuration settings, C:\ prompts as some DOS commands, Open, repair, retrieve data, etc.

Just purchased first two smartphones for wife and I. Galaxy Nexus. Just finished rooting both. Also rooted older HTC Eris with Cyanogen 7. Loaded ROM Android Revolution by Mark off Unlockr site. Using ClockworkMod Manager. I think the Nexus are rooted as they show Superuser in Apps. Not quite sure I understand this ROM Manager stuff though.

Why a ROM Manager for a rooted phone that has a ROM program installed? What with this recovery and make a back up? Can I load additional ROMs without removing Rom I have?

My daughter has a Samsung Prevail she would like to unlock to acquire tether. How risky is this for me? Is there a failsafe recovery type keystroke in the event of lockdown or trouble?

Thanks all. look forward to learning and growing in knowledge with you. By the way this is loads of FUN from an old retired contractor guy.

:)
