LED Colors

Hey Everyone

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to change the colors of the LED notification light on the Evo Shift?

Also I was wondering if there was a way to increase the length at which it blinks. It's frustrating when it goes away after like five minutes because it is virtually useless at that point!

A cursory Googling reveals a couple apps others have suggested (including some from this forum):
Blink (free)
Missed Call (free)

There's also the handy Android Developers guide
Notifying the User | Android Developers
which seems to indicate that it's possible to change the color of the LED notification lights... but maybe only through r00ting.
(I haven't found a way to do it w/o an app or r00ting.)
