Help LED Flashbulb does not work on my ZTE Warp

Just got the phone on Friday through Boost. I have not rooted the phone or really done much of anything. The LED Flash on the phone does not seem to work. I've tried taking pictures in dark areas (using the stock app and the Camera ICS app) and have tried two different flashlights (Brightest Flashlight Free and Tiny Flashlight + LED). No love.

I did read the FAQ, but the closest thing to my problem (
*Working flashlight apps:*) mentioned having to root the phone. Surely I don't have to root the phone just to get the flash to work with the camera? If I did I figure I would have read about that in a review, so I am wondering if there is something else I missed?

The flash should at least work with your camera.... I cannot vouch for any third party apps to control it because my favorite (Quick Settings) doesn't seem to support it, and it wasn't a big deal last time I tried to use it.

Seriously though, this almost screams "broken LED." Check your camera flash settings one more time, then go get a replacement.

My flash wasn't working during camera shots but then I clicked it to be always on, and nothing. Then I turned if off, took a shot, and of course nothing. But then I put it on auto and it worked. Used on and it worked again. Now it seems to be fine. I don't know if that will work for you but this phone seems to be a bit warped indeed.

Thanks for the replies. I'm heading to the mall after work to exchange the phone, but before I do I will try ssantos6981's trick.

I'm surprised there haven't been threads or posts discussing bad devices, even above and beyond the freezing and hanging that has been observed. Oh well, one can start here. Looks like the two of us got shipped faulty phones.

ssantos6981's idea worked for me. The flash is now working normally (as far as I can tell) with the camera. Still doesn't work as a flashlight, but maybe I really do have to be rooted for that to work (though if so, that is outrageous).

I didn't wind up exchanging the phone, as setting up a new one seemed like too much trouble and there's no guarantee a flashlight would work on it either.

Overall, for two hundred dollars, it is a nice phone, but I do wonder if it has more than its fair share of quirks...

It is very true. I looked and looked before I broke down and rooted just so I could get the flashlight to work. That was three months ago but I have not heard that anybody ever got their software to work with the ZTE unrooted. Some of the makers of the flashlight apps tried but were not successful.

Using superdim & tiny flashlight .. i was able to get tiny flashlight to work .. I tried shooting a video in the dark with tiny flashlight & it worked .. flashlight stayed on

Root phone
Install rootdim
Run rootdim
Click other lights - flashlight - system default (even if it's already selected)
Exit rootdim
Tiny flashlight should work now.

You will have to do this every time the phone is rebooted or power-cycled.

SWEET!!! this worked for me!!! thanks man!

Random update: Flash almost never works the first time around. It does when trying to take a second picture, though, heat to confuse its novice users.

Hey if you guys want a working flashlight (must be rooted) download rootdim it'll give you the options of lowering brightness far beyond system standard and the ability to use the LED as a light

Just another method I ran across instead of having to use RootDIM + Tiny FLashlight, with ROOTDIM itself, you can customize different settings, day1, day 2, night 1, night 2, basically pick one of those settings, and put other lights led light ON ( isntead of system default), and then u can create a homescreen widget to switch RootDIM Profiles, therefore switching to the profile that has the LED ON, then back to your default, autobrightness or whatever settings you'd like.
