LED indicator light?

Is it just me, or does the phone have LED indicator lights directly to the left of the ear speaker? You have to look pretty hard, but I believe those are LED lights.

If they aren't lights, what the hell are they?

One is a proximity sensor, the other is a brightness sensor.
