Help Less Resource Heavy Browser with Flash

I am currently trying to find a browser that doesnt suck up so much resources... Oddly enough, just lightly browsing on Chrome or Firefox is more intensive than playing an emulated games on the Drastic DS emulator. Not sure if thats means Drastic is really really really efficient or Chrome is really really inefficient.

Could be both.

Depending on how you browse, you could be keeping the radio from going into low power mode.

Here's a video about how it works:
DevBytes: Efficient Data Transfers - Understanding the Cell Radio - YouTube

Moto X uses a nano sim un/fortunately. Love my X though, and the N5 :)

My browsing patterns shouldnt be too inefficient according to that video... Chrome just seems to continuously rival-- and sometimes pass-- the display as the main battery drainer... I don't think this is strictly because of the radio though... There is supposedly a very lightweight browser, looking into it.

I use boat browser since it's rather lean.

I looked at Boat originally because it was supposed to have Flash support. It didn't. Then I found that I simply didnt like the visual appeal of the interface. :o Oh well...

Try Maxthon. That's what I use. Its a cloud browser and supports flash

Last I checked, Boat, Maxthon, etc had Flash support if you install Flash.

For reasons unknown (to us users, I'm sure it's explainable by the threads used) various browsers have different power consumption characteristics.

For a good time, see also the UC Browser and the Naked Browser.

Naked can and will turn into a power hog on Flash videos though. It's usually the lightest weight there is in memory.

Thanks! It seems Naked Browser is for purchase only. Is there a free version or am I gonna haveta buy before being able to see what I'm buying? I like supporting devs but I like seeing the work :p

Problem though, I installed both the latest flash apk from the adobe archives and maxthon... Though I cant play any of the videos on anilinkz. How do I fix this?

Check out "Naked Browser" free -

Let's move the flash support to a new thread so we can really concentrate on it. :)

I'm out for the better part of the day but will be happy to help when back.

OK, two things usually required for Flash videos to work properly.

Usually, not always but usually, you want to be in desktop view or set the UA string to desktop, depending on the browser.

The other is required - you want plug ins enabled.

Attached is the setup screen for Naked, for example.

Okay a few things:

- Firstly, thanks! It works!-- mostly! :D

- Second, it seems that Naked Browser is not compatible with the Nexus 5-- atleast not the free version. Or atleast thats what the Play Store says.

- Third, I got it to work in Maxthon and it works fairly well. However, one issue; while watching a video, the device will behave as if a video is not playing and just go ahead and dim the screen and turn it off at the intervals set to dim and sleep. How can I prevent this when using flash? Or atleast when using Maxthon

Yeah, sorry, I've seen that that sort of screen dimming on browsers when the os updated and the app wasn't ready yet.

Email addresses for the devs are on their app pages on the Play Store.

Let Maxthon know what the problem is, let Naked know about the compatibility thing.

Most devs move quickly when they know about problems.

The Naked dev really cares, I'll bet he gets that squared away quickly. Offer to beta test for him, he may send you a copy to sideload, you never know.

Time to shoot a few emails! :call:

So speaking of browser's not functioning properly in 4.4, guess which browser I just found out doesn't work on 4.4 due to coverage failure to initialize?

Hint: Starts with U and ends with C. XD another email, I assume?

Lmao I can't win for losing. :D

Yeah, drop them a line.

You may prefer the UI for what you're after.

For what you want to do, you might also be surprised at vGet used in conjunction with Moboplayer.

And if that doesn't work go away!!

Yeah I've been having that issue with Maxthon on my Nexus 5 too. I shall be bringing it to the developers attention. We had this issue previously but they fixed it for 4.3 and under before Nex5 was released. So fixing it for 4.4 shouldn't be an issue for them.
