Help LG Ally compatible providers

zer0_cool

Newbie
id like to flash my ally to sprint, but not sure if its possible, if snyone knows information on how to do, it would be great to share. if not, is there a list of compatible providers, preferable ones with unlimited data plans.

The list of providers with unlimited data plans is extremely limited. Basically, you're looking at Spring for postpaid contract service, and then Sprint MVNOs like Boost or Virgin for prepaid service. The Ally may be flashable, but I have no idea. A better place to look might be a forum on flashing.

You might look into PagePlus. No flashing required. No unlimited data either, but very competitive rates for voice, text, and OK rates for data.

well, i did some mroe research, and sprint doesnt have coverage in the area where ill be moving to, so im thinking about trying to put it on straight talk.

Definitely cant flash it to straight talk. They will only let their own specially branded phones onto their service even though it uses Verizon's network.

just because they dont allow it doesnt mean its not possible, you should check youtube, theres peple offering it for $50. im either gonna go straight tlak or the $50 vzw prepaid, which before you say you cant do, watch some yotube vids, youre just not supposed to, doesnt mean it cant be done, hell my ally is flashed to cricket right now, thats a big no no too.

I wouldnt trust my $50 on some youtube vids but hey thats up to you. You will get no guarantees that everything will work. Maybe my info is outdated, but hey its your phone in the end, do what you wish.

As far as verizon phone to Cricket, it is well established that this can be done without issue. I have never heard VZW to Cricket is a no go.

That is for flashing a sprint phone to verizon prepaid, has nothing to do with straight talk...
and nothing to do with an Ally.

Whatever do what you want, you asked some questions I tried to help out and now its getting off topic. My opinion, you are way better off saving that $50 and selling the Ally in order to get a phone that is made for whatever carrier you take. If it is Simple talk, you can get an optimus Q which runs gingerbread, has a keyboard and is brand new for $180. Sell the ally take your 50 bucks you would throw at a stranger and you have close to 3/4 of that purchase price in hand.

Im done.

it doesnt matter who makes the phone, as long as its CDMA it can be flashed to verizon prepaid, or straight talk. it turns out straight talk doesnt have 3g coverage in the area i will be relocating to, so i will be going with the verizon prepaid. it is against verizon tos/aup to use a smartphone with their prepaid plan, so this isnt sometihng verizon will do for you, and currently my verizon lg ally is flashed to cricket, which isnt supposed to be possible either. so like i said just because youre not supposed to do it, and verizon wont do it for you, doesnt mean it isnt possible.

Just did a google search because I was curious. I found some info on XDA where people say you CAN go from verizon to Straight Talk,

BUT >>>>>

It requires changing ESN from one donor ST phone to the verizon one, which is not just a TOS violation but is also borderline illegal/fraudulent. Nobody on this forum will provide any information on how to do this and I dont think most people would consider a phone "compatible" on another provider if it involves ESN tampering to get it there.

Either way, looks like you are getting your answers so have fun and good luck.

thats the thing, im going to verizon prepaid, so i dont think ill have clone the ESN, who knows, ill let you guys know how this turns out.

no prob not, that was just for straight talk, completely diff company. I looked at verizon prepaid at one time, and it wasn't much cheaper if any than verizon postpaid was it?

<cr5315> Just saying, if you want to switch carriers, ditch the Ally and get something better.
<qwerty1> ^
<cr5315> Pretty much everything you can get now is better than *any* POS LG makes

I rest my case.

well now that they dont have an unlimited data plan, the verizon rep i talked to said $120 for unlimited tlak and text + 2 gigs of data. and on the prepaid, which you arents supposed to use smartphones on, its $50 for unlimited talk and text + unlimited data, so its more than double to go for a contract and you get almost nothing as far as data goes, which is really my deciding factor, the data.

i had that convo with qwerty last night, for the first couple of months im gonna have to make what i have work, before i get some real money flowing to be able to upgrade to a better phone/tablet or both.

Im confused now, they have smartphones on verizon prepaid, and where are you seeing $50 for unlimited everything?

I see 95 for unlimited talk and text and 30 for unlimited data pack? (which is weird that they didnt get rid of the unlimited data for prepaid???)

no, thats the whole point, its not the prepaid smartphone package, its the regular prepaid package, but for some reaosn its still sing the same data signal as the prepaid smartphone package, so you can technically flash a smartphone to it and get a 3g data signal, youre just not supposed to.

Plans - Verizon Wireless

EDIT: its the very first package at the top of the page.

oh ok. I imagine they watch that for high data usage though if it is that much cheaper. Hard to use more than 1gb on a feature phone.

Let us know if you can manage to get your phone back on verizon from cricket and getting it recognized as a dumbphone on prepaid.

I wouldnt do it but we are obviously different in our views on the topic. :)

FWIW you can do verizon postpaid on month to month, with no contract (I am, all the contract buys you is a phone subsidy, the prices on service are the same) but like you said you dont get unlimited data anymore if not grandfathered.

thats what a lot of people are saying, if you skyrocket on data then they cancel your account, in which case at the end of the month you reup with another $50 prepaid card and get a new phone number, at least i think you can reup with another card and get a new phone number, im not sure, when i figure it out ill let you know.

But that doesnt make sense, you would have the same ESN so they would just block the ESN like they do for non paying accounts on postpaid. Sounds like too much trouble for something not completely legit for lack of a better word.

My attention is more grabbed by the fact that you can still get unlimited data legitimitely as a new smartphone user on verizon just by going with prepaid... that seems backwards to get rid of it on postpaid and keep it on prepaid. Maybe it has something to do with 4g

OK well good luck. If you want you can let us know IF you were able to do this all but dont tell us HOW its against forum rules.
