Root LG Esteem cheap & Easy Replacement/Repair

For anyone with no warranty and you have a bricked or broken esteem and not enough money for a new phone... Here is an easy and cheap repair (total cost: $35).

For $35 and free shipping you can purchase the esteem motherboard which has the camera attached to it and also comes with stock zvb that you can upgrade to zvd. It's almost like replacing your phone since this is the main part of phone and has SW on it.

It is very easy to replace the motherboard... Here is a video guide.
LG Esteem Disassembly

Purchase motherboard here.

Once you have replaced motherboard, your phone will be un-bricked. Now you can go to Metro store and transfer your account then come home and flash away to your hearts content. LOL

I made a post about this a few weeks ago somewhere, but I figured it would make a good thread for some in this situation.

Good luck.

may be a dumb question but,

So this would be a fix for a phone that say got dropped into the lake? hahah I have my old esteem that doesnt power up because of water damage

This would fix the motherboard and anything attached to it, like...
usb port
hdmi port
rear camera
internal sd memory & ram
battery connector
power button
comes with stock zvb

What's not attached to it are things like...
camera flash
external sd card slot
sim card slot
lcd screen

If any of the un-attached items got water damage than this may not fix your phone.

Hope this helps.

I thought the sim was specific to the phone... can it still use another motherboard with the same or different sim?

I can't say for sure, but I do know that repair shops change the motherboards on all types of phones to repair them. I guess the best way to know is to ask at a corporate Metro store. Perhaps it can be as simple as getting a new sim card from Metro when you activate. Not sure.

I checked today for an Esteem I'm piecing together and you can buy another sim card at Metro for $20.

**This info is wrong. When I went back to Metro they remembered that you can't replace the sim**
