Help lg esteem -no backlight

dbtchy1

Lurker
Hi. I have an Lg esteem with a display problem-
dark/no back-light
It turns on and with a flashlight i can see the lg logo... the phone boots, but is to dark to see the menus.
but when I go to the factory restore menu it back-lights just fine.
then last night it lit up normally (for hours) until i shut it down,..
it will not back-light again.

I apologize if I am posting to the wrong area. I tried searching but I lack the forum experience to get it done right. I have been reading posts for hours trying to find a similar problem

Hi dbtchy1..welcome to Android Forums:)
Had the Esteem for about 2 years...I might know a little about it;)
What's the issue:confused:

Hello and welcome to the forums . Sorry to see you having a problem with the back light. May i take the time to ask did you download any games or other apps that would cause lighting problems

I have done a factory reset. the one from the power button and the volumes. That menu shows up just fine.

Hi, My problem is that the backlight. When i use the power button and volume buttons to get to the reset menu the backlight works fine. and once it turned on and I was able to use it for an hour or so, until I turned it off. then when it turned back on I needed a flashlight to see the lg logo...It is too dark to see anything past the logo

Backlight  Screen brightness?
So at no time is your screen fully lit up?

yes it will fully light if I use the key combo to go into reset menu...and once the other day it was lit up for an hour..it lit up until i shut it down.

May i ask when you went into the display did any of the time outs have the bubbles color in them if not you may have been in the test mode file . But you can try to fix it . Just go into the Lg tool. Following the directions you should be able to UPDATE THE DRIVERS. Check to make sure there isn't no updates . If not cool ,leave phone plugged up and go to the right top corner its a box scroll down to update recovery . As you see this will repair any problems that occurred with any software updates they did or done . Post back with results

I have done an upgrade repair. It didn't help. can you tell me how to get to the fastboot menu. i did it once and can't seem to do it again..

Let me know when your available and we can team view so I can see exactly what the issue is. Phone is not rooted correct:confused:

No it is not rooted. I do not know how to enable usb debugging without seeing the screen. I am new here and I don't know what team view is.
I was thinking if I could flash a new rom that it may help the brightness.
Is there a way I can install a apk or img from flash card without seeing the screen.

You would only be able to flash a ROM if rooted. Teamviewer is an application on the computer that allows remote access between two computers. I could help you to setup lgnpst to downgrade the phone thus restoring it.
Does your computer see the phone when you plug it in?
