I gave some info to another person on another forum for a similar question...I'll just repost it here:

Under Menu/Settings/SD Card & Phone Storage it shows: Internal Memory: 4.00GB total, Internal Storage: 1.25GB but doesnt show total. It is here that it also shows: SD card: unavailable Total Space (it is unavailable for me since I dont have one installed). It does show I could mount an external SD card here. If you have one installed then this area should show you what your total of the card you installed is.

I believe the approx 4GB you are looking at is the internal SD card in the Esteem. From what I understand, there is suppose to be 8GB preinstalled but partitioned or divided into separate areas of usage. LG seems to think there should be a total of 8GB, Metro specs shows its 5GB and other forum members have had doubts as what the total really is. One person said they were able to see the partitions after connecting it to their PC but not sure what the totals were.
A post on LG forums even has a LG Product Pro confused lol http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/...nternal-memory

Seems confusing to me as to having internal phone storage, internal SD card storage and then an ability to have external SD card storage as well. I have read a few posts where some people are having problems trying to get apps moved to their external SD card instead of the built in internal SD card. The way I see it is any external SD card you add will have to be for video media, photos, maybe music, apk backups but not apps2sd usage, but I could be wrong, just guessing

Here is a few places my phone shows the total internal space and internal SD card space but each of these areas has no place to list any external SD card:

Titantium Backup Pro shows totals of System ROM: 1.01GB, Internal: 1.58GB, SD Card: 4.29GB
Application Manager for me shows: Phone Storage: 234MB used 1.25GB free (approx1.5GB), Internal storage 1.13GB used 2.87GB free (approx4GB)
Menu/Manage Applications for me shows: Internal storage: 199mb used 1.3GB free (approx1.5GB), SD card storage: 1.1GB used 2.9GB free (approx4GB)
Astro File manager SD card usage shows: capacity: 4.09GB
Elixir shows: Internal Storage: 1.5GB, External Storage: 4GB
