Help LG G4 died at 85% and won't take charge

Hi,

I've had my LG G4 for about a half a year now. I ordered it online, but it came in its original packaging and hadn't been touched. It had been mostly okay, but my one concern was always the battery -- the phone lost battery super fast, and very quickly stopped taking charge from the cable it came with. I had to repeatedly get new cables as the phone would stop getting charge from certain cables after being charged with them for a few months.

Recently I was using the phone totally normally with an 85% battery and I turned it off for a second. When I double tapped the screen to turn it back on it wouldn't turn on, and I quickly realized that it had powered off. I held the back button down for 30 seconds, removed the battery and inspected the connections countless times, and plugged the phone into multiple outlets. The thing is totally bricked.

I was hoping there was anything I could do short of buying a new phone. I could buy a new battery but there's only a chance that would work and otherwise it would be a waste of money, because I'm probably not buying another android after this experience.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Joseph

UPDATE: I took the battery out, cleaned the connections thoroughly and ran some tests on the battery without any conclusion. When I put the battery back in the phone buzzed and displayed the LG logo for about 30 seconds as if it was about to turn on, then powered off again and won't turn back on.

The initial batch of G4s had a known hardware defect which sounds similar to the 2nd issue you're experiencing. LG have acknowledged this and will replace/repair faulty devices without question.

Did you buy unbranded or via you're network?

Thank you so much for the response! The phone is affiliated with verion, although the plan I have is a tracfone plan piggybacking on Verizon's coverage. There's a verizon store really close to me, is that where I'd go to initiate a replacement?

I'm not sure how it works if you're using tracfone (I'm not too sure how carriers in the states do things), but I presume if it's a Verizon phone, the onus would be on them to replace it repair.

Here's a little more info and some backup if you get grief when you go in the to the store: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...-loop-problem-and-it-s-offering-a-fix-1313769

If you also Google Lg G4 bootloop, it should give you a tonne more links to tech blogs where it's discussed. :)

There have been some home fixes, but they involve putting the phone in an oven (seriously) and it's not something I fancy trying myself. https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/47hx7y/baking_method_is_strange_but_temp_fixes_g4_boot/

Thanks so much. The guy at the verizon store didn't want anything to do with me or my woes, but I put a repair request through to LG they're asking me to ship them my phone for repair. My last question before I give up and send the phone is: is this worth the shipping cost? Have people had luck with the repair program? I didn't think I was eligible on warranty (I still don't think I am) but they told me to send them the phone, so am I all set?

Thanks again :)

No problem! :)

As long as you bought it new, haven't modified it in anyway (root etc), you're covered for 1 year. I'm pretty sure that's the way warranties in the US work anyway (I'm in Scotland and we get 2 year warranties as standard).

Did they ask you for your IMEI or serial number when you called them? If yes, theyll likely know if the device is in warranty so they would've told you there and then if you weren't covered.

What are the first 3 digits of your serial number btw, faulty devices start with 505 to 510.

I'm a 507. Right in the goshdarn middle.

Thank you, this is such a huge relief. I'm shipping the phone off tomorrow and will pray LG can fix it!

Yep I've yet to see this failure outside 509. Unfortunately, one of my G4's was 509.. right at the end. It's sad that LG took 5 months to locate the issue. Mine is a H815 international model so I'm out of luck for warranty. I've yet to hear anyone who bought the unlocked H815 get any good will.

Mine has been replaced twice, but that's been by my carrier (EE UK) though. Have LG knocked you back? Where are you based?
I'm in the US. I bought the device on Amazon and it says clearly NO Warranty. Although many still feel LG should do something being it was a manufacturing defect. I did call them and they said I'm screwed lol. They don't sell a unlocked model here so they have to import them. But the unlocked is way better. It has all the bands for when I go to Fiji and no carrier bloat, fm tuner.. its a great phone.
