LG Motion: Can one make the mic emblem useful ?

On the Admire, when dictating speech to text, the microphone emblem responds to and corresponds with the voice volume.

On the Motion, the emblem simply sends out regular flares irrespective of whether or not one is speaking.

Can this part of the Motion be made to behave as does the Admire ?

are you speaking about the red circle around the mic emblem. If you are then maybe the flares or pulses are coming from background noise.i do not have that problem. it seems that you really like your admire. i still have my old admire and i have a lot of love for it.you have to understand we all have the motion on this part of this site. it is for the motion. there are things i do not like about it but for the most part i love the motion this little phone is way under priced for how good it is. spec wise the admire is not even close. these 2 phones the admire and the motion are not even in the same league. so while i understand you want to make sure you like the motion before you keep it. it seems like your nit picking and even maybe trying to put the motion down. if you don't see the motion as a upgrade keep using the admire. its going to be hard for me and most people on these threads to understand how you don't see how the motion is better in every way though.

i would also like to read some of the reviews you have done may i have a link.

Your lengthy reply signifies the question needs to be rephrased, because the question is simple and so should be the answer.

ADMIRE: After pressing on the microphone, when talking, the grey microphone fills with white to a variable degree, reflecting and coinciding with the volume of my voice, viz the microphone input. If there's silence, the microphone remains grey. This makes good sense and is an excellent feature.

MOTION: The microphone emblem sends out regular waves around the top of the mic irrespective of if there's any input or the volume of that input. When input stops, it simply changes to "working". If there's silence, the radial 3/4 circles still repeatedly and rhythmically flare from the microphone.

QUESTION: Is there any way to make the Motion's microphone emblem reflect the microphone input, viz the microphone emblem changes as the user speaks in accordance with the presence or absence of sound and the relative volume. In order words, can the Motion's microphone act just like the common sense way of the Admire ?

I never used the Admire but I know it doesn't run the same OS as the Motion. Admire is Gingerbread while the Motion is Ice Cream Sandwich. Perhaps that is the reason the microphone icon doesn't behave in the same way. If it is because of Ice Cream Sandwich then it clearly is not the Motion's fault, so any newer phone will have this issue for you.

Does the voice feature work on your motion? If so then why care if it does or doesn't bounce around when you speak.

you must not have read what i wrote and just skimmed through it. the red circle around the mic pulses as you speak. the bigger the pulse the louder you are talking. if it is picking up background noise it will pulse with out you speaking. can i see some of your reviews? i would like to see the work you have done.

I understand what your asking. Try posting questions like this in the all things root section.;)

it does on the motion also. what am i missing and why would this thread be better on the root section. his phone is not rooted at least thats what i gather from reading his posts.

Again I never used the Admire so I don't know what the speaker emblem looks like. However, I just downloaded the Gingerbread keyboard from the play store and I think it might change the microphone to work like the OP wants it to.

I think you should give it a try:
Keyboard from Android 2.3

Well after posting I checked out my voice control "which I never use" and as nitz said it does respond to your voice. So I'm not sure if he's using something different or what. I said it would be better in the atr section cause I figured it could be fixed by a themer.

You must not have read what i wrote and just skimmed through it. (ha ha) The Motion does not have what you are describing, but the Admire does.

Good question !

1. Why not have it respond ? If it's good enough for the Admire, it's good enough for the Motion.

2. It acts like a "vu"/db meter so that background noise and voice volume can be manipulated/changed.

Again I don't think it is a fault with the Motion but with the newer operating system that is running. Try that Gingerbread keyboard I linked to in my previous post.

Downloaded and installed, then selected Gingerbread for input ----> NOPE. Microphone emblem remains undaunted.

The search continues.

Thank you.

Yeah, it doesn't change the speaker on the home screen search bar. However, it does change the speaker in the keyboard.

PROBLEM SOLVED: After downloading/installing and leaving checked:

1. iPhone KB
2. SwiftKey3 KB
3. GB KB

and leaving GV typing on automatic, I now have a nice:

Where else a member should post if they are considering the Motion compared to another phone ? Is there a general comparison forum section ? Does one go to the Admire section and ask there about the Motion compared to the Admire ?

Matt, give a better Android Forum section and your desire/caution will be heeded.

I didn't mean to be rude. I just meant you can expect people not to react too well when you keep implying that the Admire is better than the Motion.

If someone were to post on an Apple forum saying that Windows has better features than OSX then I imagine things could get heated very quickly.

I could have worded my last post better, sorry.

From your user name I can understand you like Apple. If someone were to post on a Windows forum saying that OSX has better features than Windows then I image things could get heated very quickly.

As stated previously, I don't use an iPhone and not seeking an iPhone.

As for one phone being "better" that means "better for me", not necessarily anyone else. No need for anyone to get defensive because of a phone criticism nor a compliment, whether it's a preference or a true design or manufacturing flaw.

As for OS X vs. Windows that is a super great topic, and very educational and fun. Getting heated can be good. Too much apathy in the World.

Interesting way of looking at things. As for the OS X vs Windows that is certainly becoming one sided with Windows 8 being so.... ughh.:pcguru:

Thanks ever so much.

I think I need to post whatever may help anyone who is considering any phone in relationship to the Motion. There's no reason to be "careful". I would never think of telling you what you should or should not post.

Now, be constructive and tell us where else a member should post if they are considering the Motion compared to another phone ? Is there a general comparison forum section ? Does one go to the Admire section and ask there about the Motion compared to the Admire ?

Matt, give a better Android Forum section and your desire/caution will be heeded.

trying to compare these two phones is like trying to compare apples and androids. while it is done they are not comparable in the way you are going about it. first you need the figure out if you like ics over gb. look at the differences and decide an os. then you need to realize if you don't like the physical button lay out that can not be changed. making a statement like
(Can one make the mic emblem useful like it is on the admire )is not the right wording unless you are trying to come off as crass.i do not know you and wish you no ill will. it is starting to seem like you dont know much about android and while that is ok you should be willing to learn i am saying this because i have read many of your old threads and it seems as if you are going in circles.i have been rude in the past as you are and i can tell you it got me nowhere.please stop there is no reason for all the arrogance. we are all just here to help eachother

Funny how Niz and I butted heads a while ago now we are agreeing. Sorry about that by the way Niz.

Again AppleUser I mean no disrespect or anything. I just meant like Niz kind of said just word your questions a little differently. It is difficult for me to explain what I mean but again I don't have anything against you and I hope you will grow to like your Motion as much as you like your Admire. Heck I still kind of miss my old Samsung FreeForm II, not really but just a little.
