Help Lg Nexus 4

Looking into buying an unlocked Lg Nexus 4. I have been reading through the internet and they say that the battery is locked in and there is no ext sd card slot. Is this device worth investing money into. I know on the development side there is so much out there. I am speaking strictly hardware, is this a solid phone or should I buy something else.
