LG Optimus C

la sal

Android Expert
The LG Optimus C was supposed to be released by Cricket today. Went to their site, typed in my zip code, and they have the Zio back up again.

When I go to the Cricket website and shop phones, the LG Optimus C isn't even shown.

I have to click to other links in order to see it on the Cricket website. Strange.

If you ordered it online, i don't see why it would matter where you live.

Just spoke to a CRICKET (corporate) representative in person. My area(perhaps others as well or all areas) will NOT be getting the OPTIMUS C.Reason given: the OPTIMUS C takes up too much bandwidth, causing performance issues,etc.....The representative went on to state that the ASCEND uses a lot of bandwidth & this was a factor in the OPTIMUS C not being released/available,at least in my calling area. Not sure if this is a factor in the continued delay of the ASCEND receiving the ANDROID 2.2 FROYO update.I'm still patient w/this as an ASCEND owner, being the phone has just reached the 5-6 month availability milestone.

However, the SAMSUNG SUEDE will hit the scene in early APRIL.Although not an ANDROID phone, this is the model that will be featuring the MUVE music service.

The Suede is already available in my area. It doesn't interest me though.

I would have to agree w/you la sal.The MUVE music service does have my interest, though I'm not quite ready to switch phones to get it.The MUVE music service would be a nice add-on to the ANDROID line-up,I'd be willing to pay for it if was offered @ a fair & reasonable price.

I just did a google search for "cricket phones" and went to the one that says mycricket.com/cell-phones and it was there. I didn't have to put in my zip code or anything. I'm sure if you really wanted one you could get it. Cricket will activate flash phones or anything, so I'm sure they would do it, or you can activate it yourself. I don't see how the optimus would use any more bandwidth than the ascend, especially since it doesn't support flash either. I'm still planning on waiting for the x5 myself.

I'm satisfied w/the ASCEND.The OPTIMUS C isn't enough of an up-grade to switch phones,especially since I've had the ASCEND only 3½ months.
I've also read other articles/posts that suggest that the other OPTIMUS models are difficult to root. Not sure of the validity of these claims, however,it would be a subject for those interested in rooting to investigate further before purchasing.
As far as the bandwidth issue, the CRICKET representative I spoke with basically said that while the OPTIMUS C bandwidth issues weren't any better or worse than the ASCEND,they just didn't want to go down that road again,or,have two phones with the same bandwidth issues in my calling area to deal with simultaneously.

Check out the optimus v section of the forum. If the rooting instructions there are the easiest way (and the same for the optimus c), then it seems way harder. They do have quite a few custom ROMs, though. I still don't get Crickets explanation. Wouldn't the zio still use the same bandwidth?

You got me there,I honestly don't have an answer for that.Just passing along what was told to me by a reasonably credible CRICKET representative who had just attended the latest training & information session from CRICKET.Anything in the wireless communication industry is subject to change at a moments notice,as the technology is always evolving & constantly being updated.

The optimus c is still on the cricket web site for the area i live in so i do think this phone will be coming out.

Cricket store employees are ******s most of the time they have no clue what corp. is doing most times in a cricket store its like the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.

I just received my LG Optimus C in the mail yesterday. It's my first android phone and I'm pretty impressed so far, I'm using it primarily for work, so I'm not too worried about it running 3D games or anything, and it seems to fit my needs pretty well.

You will love that phone i have the optimus s for sprint and there all the same phone inside and really the best deal for budget android phones.

Thought about switching from Virgin to Cricket till I saw this at the bottom of the plan detail page:

Rate plan contains a 1GB data usage level. Once you reach your usage level your speeds will be reduced. See our Fair Use Policy for details.

I'd rather deal with slow data than no data at all :P but good point, I managed to get my data back on Virgin AGAIN and hopefully they figure this crap out.

I have the optimus m from metro. Its a great phone, but is harder to root. No easy one click here and probably never will be. So if the optimus c is the same way, it may be something to take into consideration.
