Help LG optimus exceed 2 root

I have what I need to root but I'm lost after that. Do I have to install custom Rom?? I've looked at the guides provided but need it in human terms LOL. Thanks for any help!

Towelroot worked for my Optimus Zone 2, worked right away too, nothing else worked.
As for ROMs n such, I havent found many for any of the Optimus series, none for my Zone 2, maybe they are too new?

Root just gives you superuser access (similar to administrator on Windows). Custom ROM is not necessary unless you want it to gain options that are not available any other way. If your phone is running Android 4.x, you could also look into Xposed, which offers similar customization as ROMs, but without the requirement to flash a new ROM.
