Help LG Optimus G having freezing issues.

I've had nothing but trouble with the LG Optimus G. I have had 2 of them now.

They both have the same problems. THEY FREEZE AND THEY GET TOO HOT.

The freezing issue is incredibly annoying, by far the most annoying thing I've ever had to deal with on a phone.

It happens when I'm texting. The status bar turns white and I can't text. The phone just freezes up whenever I type anything. But when I scroll the status bar back down and up, the freezing stops. But it continues once I press a letter. It freezes on words.
This happens to me whenever I type on anything. Internet browser, messaging, ect.

So I have to restart the phone for it to stop.

It happens at least once a day. Most of the day it's fine.

Now the heat issue. I don't know if its common for the LG optimus G to get very hot with just 5 mins of use. It's very annoying. It's hard to make calls with it when it's that hot. Your ear feels like it's on fire.

I use swiftkey, but that's not what's causing this problem. I had this problem way before I installed swiftkey.
I don't ever have eco mode on either.

I'm incredibly confused on why this is happening. There's no way in hell you get 2 dud phones in a row. It just doesn't happen.
Also no one else in the world has reported this issue. Believe me, I've tried looking.

Bestbuy won't exchange it now because I have already exchanged it for the 2nd one. It's so ridiculous that they won't take back a clearly broken phone.

Long post, but this issue is far too complicated. Please bring down your mighty wisdom and help me with this hell hole of a problem!

It shouldn't make a difference, and this does sound like a hardware issue to me.

However, I would try shutting off any radios you don't use (ex, disable LTE if it is not in your area, turn off blue tooth/wifi/nfc if not used, etc) and put the phone in eco mode (I assume it would run cooler in eco mode).

Is there any software (keyboard or otherwise) that you load up as soon as you get the phone? If so, try running without it.

Nothing else I will type here will help you, but I do sympathize and hope that you get a satisfactory resolution.

For some reason it seems more common than one would think, that when someone encounters a problem with a certain phone, that they will have problems with the replacement.

I am sure the issues and solutions vary, but there are dozens of posts in various forums from people who have tried 2 or 3 replacements of the same phone, with the same problem(s) even when nobody else in the world seems to have the issue(s). Then when they switch phones everything is wonderful.

I don't know if it is some sort of technology karma or just the old, "put enough monkeys in a room with enough typewriters for long enough, and they will eventually write the works of Shakespeare." At any rate, remember that statistically if you flip a coin and it comes up heads 10 times in a row, the chance of the 11th flip being heads is still 1/2...

Did you try doing a hard reset? My phone was acting up a few times, running hot, lag, stuttering a bit. I reset and it was fine, also since the new 4.1.2 upgrade I have no more heating issues and my battery life is great after that.

The freezing and heat issues was happening when I turned them on for the first time. So I don't think a hard reset would do anything.

For some dumb reason AT&T doesn't have the 4.1.2 update. Really? Only Sprint does from what I've read.
That annoys me. It makes me think having 1 big phone company would be ok(most likely not, but at least you wouldn't have to wait for a phone update.)

EDIT: By hard reset do you mean resetting the phone? I do that all the time. It works, but the freezing just comes back.

Hard reset means wiping everything from your phone and pretty much reinstalling the original software from when it was built.

Sometimes it will fox underlying issues that are in the software. Then again at&t build is a little different than sprint so I cant help too much but I think a factory reset might do the trick.

Make sure you back up any videos, pictures, or music file or anything you want to reinstall after the factory reset.

Yes my phone is doing the same also dials numbers and calls automatically, i cant deal with it Sprint will not give me another phone just this same pos and this is the second phone i am on from them as well because the other way over heated . Hoping can solve this by the district manager i am pissed know how you feel

You are not the only one. I am currently on my third lg optimus G in one month. the first one I had just like yours froze and then heated up. Unfortunately for me it shut off and never turn back on. So with that phone I lost all my pictures and all my information being that there's no memory card to pull it from, and you couldn't turn the phone on to access the information through the port. The second phone I got out of the box was broken would not charge I also lost the information out of that phone. I have a third phone that is freezing up. so because of this I called Sprint yesterday and force them to switch me for a samsung galaxy 3. I know that's not the greatest phone available right now but after 3 broken LG's in a row I just need something different. I would never recommend for one second that someone buy an lg optimus G phone.

I'm not glad that you had broken phones but I am glad to find out I'm not the only one

I also am having problems with my lg and I am sorry for ur losses. I almost lost everything but thanks to dropbox ap I have all my pictures and music.

I have the same problem with overheating and rebooting on my optimus g. Sprint is giving me another one in a few days, but If I end up with the same problems Im gonna ask for a different phone. This is a recurring issue with the snapdragon quadcore....Recall I say...
