LG Rumor Touch (Virgin Mobile): Bricked without root access?

Ok, so whenever I push the power button on this phone, it says Hello (I guess that's its splash screen) for a few seconds and the red light in the top left corner turns on. it stays that way for a few seconds and then turns itself off.
From what I understand, that's what a bricked phone looks like but there's no way my dad is tech-savvy enough to get root access on it...

Is there any other thing that might cause the phone to act like this that can be fixed? Or should I forget about recovering his data... (He got a new phone so the contacts list & such is all we really need from this phone anyway... he saved all his contacts to the phone instead of his google account)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I've already tried holding down the back button (and all the other buttons too) while pushing power but they all get the same results...

It's possible that an OTA came in at just the wrong instant, perhaps during shutdown or while the battery was too low.

It's also possible that you're dealing with nothing but a (nearly) dead battery.

The first thing I would do is remove the battery to be sure it's shut down (power button might not be reliable with very low battery), then put it back in and fully charge the device.

If it boots up fine following the charge, there you go. ;)

If not, try holding the power button only down for about thirty seconds; sometimes that can "kick start" a device (mostly on Tabs, I've noticed).

A trip to your nearest carrier's tech may be in order failing all that. Good luck.

Thanks, Frisco

turns out it was just the battery after all... I guess the Rumor Touch just didn't like my Intercept's cable when I tried to charge it before.
