Help LG Spirit LAG

My LG Spirit is lagging like crazy. It seems like when I have a bad cell connection everything on my phone lags. Is this typical?

If the phone is spending most of its time resending packets for the cell call, it won't have much time to do much else, so yes. The worse the connection, the slower the phone is effectively.

So when I am in my house with very low cell signal and trying to send an email or do a Google search I should expect lag in letter typing and closure of apps?
