Root LG Tribute Stock ZV5 Deodexed & Unmodified [4.4.2]

I've never used a stock calculator. I use Easy Calculator Pro by MobileSoftJungle from Google Play. It's free and it gives me percentages. I've used it for years! Nice UI, and a scientific mode. All you need.

On another "app" note...I chose to install an archived version of Facebook v18.0.0.24. It's smaller in size than the latest version, but still has most of the features I need. I've disabled the Auto-update in Google Play to prevent any changes. It works and saves space!

I normally use scientific calcs but CM calcs seem to blow them outta the water with all kinds of options - equivalent to a.. Ti-83..??. Pretty Sweet.. Graphs and all. I have a Cobalt blue themed CM calc in my ROM but I can post a link for just the calc if anyone is interested, or just PM me.

Report on Google Maps/Navigation works without needing wifi assist. Took a trip between Virginia & New Jersey. No problems with voice navigation. Nice!
Better than my old Garmin!
Still running v1

That's because it's a stock ROM

I've had "stock" roms in other phones that developed issues with some of the Google apks. ( a gapps package issue) and I've had to flash a signed gapps pack to fix the problem. The words "stock and modified" are no guarantee a rom will work as it should. And remember..this rom is "unsigned". That's why SuperR wants feedback! So far..no errors or glitches. I'm still looking for a deodexed LG Gallery apk that'll work with this phone. I want photo gallery and editing. Any suggestions?

Thanks rcunningham! Those worked! Now a technical question for my brilliant forum mates..does anyone know if my VM Tribute can be attached to a Boost Mobile account. I want to switch cause I'm hating VM's data cap! I get one week of good service, then down to the 1G crawl!

It can if you swap a SIM card with the phone. It would be a BYOP thing. You would first have to unlock the phone before switching carriers. So the answer is yes it can be done.

I agree it can be done. However, cdma devices don't use a sim card so it will not be very easy. There is a way to do it but I have no idea how.

I am no expert on SIM cards and stuff. I heard that there is some Windows tool that allows you to "Flash" the phone with another carrier. Some person did it with the LG Ally and it's a CDMA device and it has no SIM card at all. I did not know it was all CDMA phones.

What's the word on this rom as it stands now? Stable with no issues? What's the situation with zv5 vs zv4 for regaining root after updates? Will this update interfere with twrp use (just rooted and still zv4,i deleted everything google to stop ota updates). Dont want to flash this and bork the device.

I don't think deleting all the Google apps will stop OTA updates. Deleting them will stop the Google app updates. You can always download it on a PC and then delete the GApps then just flash it.

Actually the otas use a combo google apps and a stock app for some reason. I deleted them upon rooting zv4 and the zv5 download terminated. Samething with the virgin mobile awe. I am getting binary issues installing rom also.

Edit:

The stock app involved i believe is the lgfota app. Now its possible only that app needs to be removed. This device is a bit different than the awe.

The reason the ota updates abort after deleting google apps is because it checks the md5 sum of each file to make sure the system is identical to the original. If there is a single file (google or otherwise) that has been removed or modified the ota updates will abort.

Regarding the binary error...try booting to recovery, wipe data and cache, use the twrp menu to reboot recovery, then try flashing the rom again.

Interesting. Well that's a good explanation for why.

You can kill the ota download in progress by deleting the apps. By doing so,the update in settings will force close settings when you try to look for lg updates. All other updates will still work. Ill give that a try on reflashing thanks.

Reporting in on my second Tribute. My first one broke. Got this one rooted, and flashed DSv2 rom but..
can't get TWRP to run a backup. It says.."out of available memory! ". I've debloated the unneeded stuff out, and installed a KitKat SD Card Fix app from Google Play to fix the "write" issue. Now I need to do a backup. I clean flashed this rom, and everything works. I don't get it!?

Just a FYI...Windows 10 Evaluation Copy will run SDK Tools & ADB Bridge if you have Java and your required phone drivers installed. No problems ! I'm running x86 or 32 bit version in my old Acer netbook. Nice job Microsoft !
