LG V10 Battery Life

Hi...I'll be watching Black Friday ads for something compelling enough to keep me from buying a V10. Love the SD card, saw the screen today at Best Buy and it seems fine. I'm coming from a string of Galaxy S3, S4, S5, but want to keep my SD card and retain battery options. I'm on Verizon, BTW.

1. What's your experience with battery life? I have often bought extended batteries on Amazon to make my previous phones last longer...does the V10 need one?

2. Any other cons that you didn't see coming?

Thanks.

Honestly, there's not one deal killer on this phone.
I'd preferred a Front-Facing speaker (2 is not necessary for me,I don't use my phone as a Boom-Box) ;)
The battery life is OK for me,more is always welcome,YMWV,no two users are alike.
Mine makes it all day through a typical work day,I have 4 emails syncing/HTC's Blinkfeed side-loaded/Amazon & Ebay updating etc......
If you literally live on your phone,as if it's an appendage you were born with,no phone will make it through a day.
This one doesn't seem to have any inherent issues as idling/draining,so,I think you'd be OK w/this phone.
As we know,if need be,more power is just a battery swap away,no worries..............

What Kolio has said is very true!
I too am on Verizon and I can make it through a day on 1 charge. (Your mileage may very.)
I am happy with my LG V10.
Lateck,

I'll ditto what Kolio said too. My only complaints thus far are that I still wish it had front facing speakers, and I've been told on a call that my voice didn't sound the best (but only after asking specifically since it was a new phone...so not so drastic as to warrant an unsolicited response). And if I'm being nitpicky, I love the keyboard but at times it seems like the touch screen is a little off with it. I haven't noticed it affecting anything else, just the keyboard.

My battery life has been unbelievable thus far. The 1st heavy day of usage while setting up the phone, transferring data over and setting up Nova launcher left me w/ 50% battery life at the end of the day. This weekend we were home for the vast majority of it, and I was mainly on my computer if I needed to do anything. As a result, I didn't need to charge my phone at all Saturday night, and didn't plug it in until Sunday night before bed when it still had around 15% charge.

Thanks, everyone. I've always preferred to replace the stock battery with an extended one only because it can be hassle restarting the phone, but I should revisit that option. Glad these have all been positive experiences, much appreciated. Truth be told, I would love to hold off and see if the battery and SD card tweaks coming in Marshmallow will alleviate my storage issues on my S5, but something tells me that Utopia it ain't.

thanks again.

The battery is alright for the size.
But I say that because my two previous phones had larger batteries and drained down way slower. Comparing the V10 to my old LG G Flex or my BlackBerry Passport, I feel like it's a must to be near a charger twice a day compared to those two previous phones, which I knew once I left the house in the morning I wouldn't need to charge back up until 10pm or later at night.

These days, with people spending so much time on their smartphones but also wanting to have a slim device, the battery life will continue to be a problem until the next major breakthrough in battery technology.

My V10 gets me through most of the day, but eventhough I can change batteries, I'd rather not power down and reboot, so I usually carry an emergency power bank with me. I have a few sizes ranging from 5,000 mAh up to 12,000 mAh, and I pick the one I need to carry. YMMV.

I was able to get the extra battery and SD card promotion. Not sure I really need the extra battery because it gets me through the day now.

+1
I'll take the extra battery though, wouldn't want it collecting dust...................

I must have got two lemons. I want to love this phone got the first one on Friday. Charged as specified. hardly used is closed all apps and it died is less than 3 hours. I could not get 3 hours on a charge. Sunday night too it back got a second. I have battery saver on close apps each time I close the phone. Plugged it in and when I went to bed it was at 100% turned on alarm shut it down in the AM at 7 it was dead. Had to charge twice yesterday - today (Tuesday) unplugged at 7:30 in red zone at 10:24. UGH

Do you have any social media apps (FB, Twitter) continuously running? I can literally go 2 days without charging, running on Verizon. But, I do not have any social media apps installed. My email is set to sync every 2 hours. Don't have gps on, unless absolutely need it. I don't sync any google crap either :) Turn off your auto sync and see how your battery life is then.

I read the complaints about the battery life for some people (not just here, but other forums too), yet I almost never see any of them reference whether they monitor what's sapping the power. I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of 'not' checking and making an adjustment, but it's just an observation.

I do this 12 hours after the first charge and make adjustments accordingly --- and repeat this procedure 12 hours after downloading a new app. There have been phones that just don't work well with some apps or even operating system updates (... like the Sammy S3 ! ! ! ) ... yet within a day or two one of he genius minds on these forums know what it is and will share how to remedy the problem.

Again ... not accusing anyone of not doing this or being too lazy to do it, but I am suspect that someone runs back to return a phone and denounces it when no manufacturer would put out a phone that wouldn't/couldn't get you through at least an 12 hour day under 'normal' use.

My two bars of battery worth.

I don't use battery saving options nor battery "saving" apps & do well, not oustanding mind you, but, decent enough to when I get home from work in the evening to have between 35-50% after 12 hrs or so.

As usage varies,so will battery life, very difficult to pinpoint on a forum, akin to a physician diagnosing one's ailments via live chat, perhaps it can be done, but,it would take a long time to accomplish.

To cut to the chase, can you list the user loaded apps you have on your phone & if you got them somewhere other than the Google Play Store, where.

Also,how's your internet/data signals?

I do have some social media but what is tells me is taking up battery it exchange. I tried to go back to my email settings nd take it off PUSH but can't find those options again.

Not to bad since 7 AM this morning

Oh gosh... Still just as horrible as mine. I was hoping maybe somebody might have discovered something that I didn't.

After my first charge I got just a hair over 3 hours SOT, which coming from the G4 is a lot better. I was only getting 2.5 hours SOT on my G4 at 50% brightness (for about the first 7 months I had it). I made some tweaks to settings and apps and was finally able to get my G4 to just over 3 hours SOT time before I traded it in (but it was always the screen and google services using the most battery, never able to trace it to a bad app I downloaded). So, with a larger screen and optional always on second screen I'm actually happy to get 3 hours SOT on my V10 and only hope it gets better. The clerk at T-Mobile claimed he gets better battery life when he uses a regular charger over the included quick charger, but I don't know the science behind that or if that could even be true.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but,I'd put money on the method to charge, whether quick or standard has nothing to do with the discharge rate.
The quick charge seems to generate a bit more heat until the charge rate slows down,as it's approaching the full point, but, has nothing to do with the discharge rate, all other things being equal vs standard charging.
I use a small desktop fan to keep my devices cool while charging.May be a bit overkill, but, keeping things cooler sure can't hurt.

Yeah, I would agree with you. I can't see how the charging method would matter. I've heard people come up with the theory that regular charging "deep" charges the battery and quick charging doesn't. Seems like the battery would either be charged or not.

Probably a little overkill, but like you said, it can't hurt. :D

Sort of on topic, but I noticed my LG quick charger makes an audible buzzing noise when charging my phone (my Anker charger does the same thing, but louder). Is that normal? My wife's Note 4 quick charger is totally silent (really jealous of the battery life on that phone!).

There's a lot of talk about that over in the T-Mobile V10 section over at XDA,ideas/opinions are almost as varied as battery charging/conditioning discussions:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/general/lg-v10-soon-wireless-charging-t3237909

I didn't use the wireless charging too much (opting for swapping batteries instead),but, when I did,I didn't hear anything at all.
I was using the OEM LG V10 QI Charging cover & the TYLT Charger.
If youued one of the qi stickers available, that could account for the noise, hard to say.
Also,in that link I posted above,it's noted that the hardware inside of the phone that supports wireless charging is garbage,th same stuff that was used in the G4,which is reported to totally crap out, rendering QI Charging inop.
