LG V10 Battery Life

There's a lot of talk about that over in the T-Mobile V10 section over at XDA,ideas/opinions are almost as varied as battery charging/conditioning discussions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/accessories/qi-wireless-charging-t3245065
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/general/lg-v10-soon-wireless-charging-t3237909

I didn't use the wireless charging too much (opting for swapping batteries instead),but, when I did,I didn't hear anything at all.
I was using the OEM LG V10 QI Charging cover & the TYLT Charger.
If youued one of the qi stickers available, that could account for the noise, hard to say.
Also,in that link I posted above,it's noted that the hardware inside of the phone that supports wireless charging is garbage,th same stuff that was used in the G4,which is reported to totally crap out, rendering QI Charging inop.

I've been reading some of those forum posts about wireless charging, but I would never install the coil myself. I've yet to ever use wireless charging because most manufacturers make it really hard/inconvenient to use (aka replaceable back not sold in the U.S., etc.). My weird charging thing occurs with the quick charger wall wart buzzing while charging. From what I can gather online the buzzing can be a poorly made unit with loose connections (on my second Anker one that does the same too).

Also, after the decent first two charges of my V10 I'm having massive battery drain in standby. I unplugged my phone at 100% and while I was sleeping it drained almost 20% in 5 hours. I did a factory reset and router reset and unchecked the passpoint thing in the Wi-Fi settings (as far as I know that is only for hotspots?). We'll see what happens. I don't want to return another phone.

Side note: Does anyone know what the Qualcomm Izat thing does on the V10? You can turn it off in the location services. Qualcomm even has a press release touting this feature and the V10 and I still don't know what it does.

1) I turned that Izat off,has something to to with enhancing locations & things (of interest?) around you.
JMHO,sounds like mumbo-jumbo for more data mining.Whether that is what its true purpose is,I can't say, but,it sounds like the potential is there,No thanks:

2) As for the stand by battery drain,I never had that problem. My V10 blew the doors off the Note 5 in that category,my settings are similar to yours, maybe a weak WI-FI &/or Cellular connection is the culprit?

3) As for the buzzing from the quick charging,I still haven't taken the OEM wall plug out-of-the-box,I'm using the Samsung Note5 & Nexus6 chargers. As for any noise coming from those,or,the phone itself while charging, not a peep. I did have a Note4 quick charger self-destruct after only 4-5 months of use,so,a defect in mfg could very well be the cause of the buzzing noise.

Hello Muckle; I've have had no problems with the standard or Anker chargers. You may have poor connections in your outlet (?). As for battery drain, I have an issue with Verizon Support &Protection that has major cpu use just after a re-set or any time I turn on my V10. I have to watch it and use my Task Manager to kill it to stop the drain. After that it plays well. Look to see what maybe using the cpu to much.... Lateck,

I haven't seen this discussed in battery threads. Forgive me if it has. I just got my V10 2 days ago. So far, its great but not enough time to review any features. However I spent some time drilling through menus and settings. There seems to be many places where this phone and apps auto update (very bad) or send diagnostics to Google or others. I shut off or stopped as many of these actions as I can find. I have probably missed several. Obviously if this phone is constantly reading apps and connecting with various vendors, battery will be quickly drained. This has been my experience from years of using smartphones. I hope this helps the power users here.

Sounds like it makes GPS more accurate somehow. Still not sure I understand it or how it would benefit me so turned it off. I thought the V10 had some feature that amped the WI-FI and cellular signals? Is this connected?

Don't know. We have a really good router and my phone is showing an excellent WI-FI and cellular signal. I had trouble connecting to the 5 GHz band yesterday so I'll try again today. Right now I'm on the 2.4 GHz band to save battery. I still don't have a case on it (it arrives today) so hopefully that doesn't make anything worse. But, one of the reasons I love LG is the insane battery standby time I've experienced from the G2 to G4. So this is disappointing after my initial first day SOT.

I did have a Note4 quick charger self-destruct after only 4-5 months of use,so,a defect in mfg could very well be the cause of the buzzing noise.

That would be weird if I went through two bad Anker and one bad LG quick charger in a week. I wonder if my ears are just more sensitive to the sound?

Hello Muckle; I've have had no problems with the standard or Anker chargers. You may have poor connections in your outlet (?).

That would be weird. We put in new outlets throughout our house a few years ago and I've tried the Anker quick charger 2.0 in multiple wall outlets both with surge protectors and without. I e-mailed Anker and asked if this was normal and they didn't answer and just said I could return it. They seem to be clearancing out the quick charge 2.0 products on Amazon so maybe it was a bad old batch? If it matters mine is the black one. I couldn't get the reduced sale price on the white one to experiment if there was a difference between the colors (when they were made, components, etc). With my LG charger I basically have to put my ear about six inches away before I hear the buzzing. The Anker one I can hear a couple feet away.

I'll have to see if there are any setting I can tweak with T-Mobile's similar app. I usually just turn off the constant notification shade feature on the T-Mobile My Account app, but haven't looked into the features further.

I traded (Jumped) my V10 a few days ago, but,I'l go from memory as best I can:
Go to menu>Settings>Apps & disable APP Source & all the T-Mobile garbage apps listed.
Also, comb around in the settings until you find something regarding diagnostics/etc...,turn off all that noise too,it's constantly pinging your phone data back to T-Mobile,highly unnecessary. Only time you need that is if you're trying to troubleshoot with a T-Mobile call center rep.

Disabled all T-Mobile apps except: My Account, Device Unlock, Visual Voicemail, and Mobile Hotspot. I always disable T-Mobile TV and a few others right away. Never have seen Mobile Money until the V10 (now disabled).

I also unchecked device diagnosis scheduler and pretty much everything else in the My Account app. Never had to do that before, but if it helps my battery drain I'm for it. Phones can be so shockingly different how they react. My wife's Note 4 constantly gets 5-6 SOT with all of these settings on and heavy use.

Thanks for the info.

This is OK,nothing here consuming battery/snooping around & pinging the Mothership.............

This is better known as Carrier IQ,total garbage.I don't think you even need it on for troubleshooting w/T-Mobile.
But,if you do need it for such,at least you know where the settings are to disable once you're done.
Disabling the abovementioned should help with stand-by battery drain.

I think there may be one or two other LG things you can disable to improve battery life,I'll take a look at my LG tablet later this evening & post right here.

I also have Lookout Mobile active. I turned off all backup services with that, but still use it as my device administrator and to scan apps I download.

Thanks. I never know what is safe to disable. I deleted LG Health being that was causing issues on my G4, plus it's redundant being I use the Fitbit app.

If you have the option(on a stock/unrooted device) to disable/uninstall,it's safe to do so if you're not using it.
If you're not sure if doing so will have a negative (yet harmless/reversible) result, just disable/uninstall one or two per day or so.
The mfgs. aren't gonna give the option to do so if it has a negative/potentially crippling effect on the phone.

As for what to recommend,my app list is a bit different from the V10.
If you have any particular apps in mind, just list 'em,or,provide a screenshot, that should jog my short-term memory................. ;)

Thanks for the help! Yeah, makes sense they wouldn't let you disable something if it totally ruined the phone. I don't root my phones so there is no worry there. I'll try your method and see what I discover.

I had the phone in safe mode tonight and it was still draining fast during standby. I'm going to try and charge the phone tonight without the quick charger and run in in safe mode for a longer period of time and see what happens too. I did notice when I peeled the back off this morning, to take my sd card out before a factory reset, that the battery was a little bubbly at the very top. Almost looks like the outer layer wasn't put on tight enough. It doesn't look like pictures of ones I've seen online that are ready to explode, etc. I'll have to post a pic of my battery too possibly. Maybe I just have a bad battery?

Get a new battery, that one sounds like it has a defect, you shouldn't be seeing something like that out of the box.
LG or,your service provider will likely provide a replacement free of charge.
T-Mobile is cool about stuff like that, they sent me a replacement Note4 Charger free of charge, all I paid was a nominal shipping fee.

I'll have to do that. I'll post of picture of the battery tomorrow. Some strategery will be needed to avoid "by the book" "the customer is always wrong" clerk who roams my T-Mobile store. I hope I don't have to eat the $50 (plus my screen protector cost) to exchange the phone for something else (don't want to blow my second jump of the year in one week). Shame being the second screen notifications are implemented brilliantly.

Here is the latest:

Quick charged my phone fully before bed and the battery drained about ten percent quickly on standby. Put a regular charger on it to charge back up to 100 percent and left it plugged in another hour. Now I've been on the battery for 8 hours and I'm at 93 percent after some web surfing and texts. That seems really good. The 8 hours I was sleeping the phone stayed at 100 percent while in standby. So I wonder if it could be a hardware problem related to quick charge or software problem related to quick charge or still maybe a bad battery that doesn't work with quick charging?

Capture+_2016-02-01-19-34-39.png With my screen set at about 39% (location and bluetooth turned off) I was able to pull this in today (screen seems so much brighter than the G4)

Man,that's hard to tell.
Hopefully,others will chime-in & compare.
Also, you could visit a few stores that have working demos/open-box units & see if they'll let you compare...............

Yeah, I'll bring it into the T-Mobile over the weekend and ask about it. A huge chunk of the employees at my store use the V10 as their daily driver so I'm sure one would pull the back on their phone and show me their battery. I can actually push the bulge down and it sticks to the groove underneath and then pops back up. After looking at my spare G4 battery it has a similar, but smaller, bulge at the top where the outer material folds over the top. So maybe it's normal?

Also, my V10 charged from 5% to 55% in a half hour with just the cable plugged into the USB slot (2.1 amp) in my Belkin surge protector (no wall wart). I thought you needed a certified wall wart for quick charge to work? The battery behavior on this thing is messing with my mind. LOL
