I am no guru but i believe you can check for root with an app from Play Store called 'root checker' or some such. Hope this helped.

I could not get that second link to download anything but some applications I dont need... the drivers link was perfect

People can also use LGPwn.apk. Takes a few tries, then install SuperSU to install root binaries and get the superuser requests rolling. Google the app name.

No roms, no custom recoveries, no unlocked bootloader. I had suggested in another post the use of TeenyBins thru LGNPST tool as was done with the LG Optimus G's, but thats all on XDA and the 'TeenyBins" if im not mistaking were home made. Google TeenyBin so you can see what I mean. Its basically plugging in a custom recovery and the same identical fastboot mode seen on devices such as the Nexus 7 directly. I had the Optimus G, this was the way tocget the custom recovery and unlocked bootloader. Since these devices all work similar, there must be a possibility that this could be step one for getting our devices ready for custom roms and so on. I remember i accidentally installed the LG Optimus E970 OS on my LS970 (theyre both LG Optimus G, but the LS970 is Sprint and E970 is AT&T, Sprint has a 13mp and AT&T has a 8mp cam) so since these devices tend to be very indifferent, work done on one model may also work for other models.
