Libs flunk econ 101

What, are you twelve? I had a more coherent conversation with my wife's grandmother the day she passed away from Alzheimer's Disease.

LOL no its just do you really think your government is THAT bad.
All governments spin the truth of course but not they dont use state media as a propaganda tool in western countries

I guess you have to live somewhere like UK or Ireland to really understand ;)

I'm sorry if I caused you distress [ROLLEYES]

In 1994, it was reported by Pyongyang media outlets that Kim Jong Il shot 38 under par on a regulation 18-hole golf course – including 5 holes in one! That score is 25 shots better than the best round in history, and is made even more amazing by the fact that it was his first time playing the sport. It’s said Kim Jong Il would routinely sink 3 or 4 holes in one per round of golf, and – lucky for the PGA – he has since given it up.

Chill with the rolleyes emoticon. It's seriously annoying. Anyhow, why do you refuse to acknowledge that my main point is not about the BBC and is about my distrust of what government run news could morph into under the Obama administration? You pick and choose what you will reply to; and not just in this thread.

Do you really think Obama is going to start using a state broadcaster as a propaganda tool

Politicians already try to suppress stories that are unfavorable to them. You think that they would do that any less if it were a state run institution?

Or is the whole idea of a state broadcaster too communist?

Giving politicians any control over the information you get is dangerous. The problem is, it will be behind the scenes, and you will not know when they have and have not exerted that influence.

All you will know is what the media tells you. You won't know what they don't tell you and you won't know when they lie.

Lol, well then, there are benefits to government controlled media; if you happen to be a crazed narcissistic thin-skinned despot. Wait. Are we talking about Kim Jong-il here or Oblahblah?
Sorry is this a joke?
Do you seriously believe that BOTH Obama and Kim Jong mentally ill are crazy despots?

Wait, dont you believe the world is 6000 years old too...

What's the difference between the BBC and China Central TV?

Do you really believe that your politicians are just better more moral people?
There is a HUGE difference
BBC is merely payed for by the government, and has to do PSO programming etc

CCTV is practically run by the CCP, you certainly wont hear that vice president so & so was arrested for arms smuggling on it

As an example: in the UK, the biggest propanganders of the Conservitive led government are....

C'mon guess!

Its the BBC isnt!?!

No actually its the Sun and the Daily Mail...

He already has 3 of the 4 qualities that I listed; crazed, narcissistic and thin-skinned. "Despot" is just a serious crisis away. After all, his just-retired Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is on record as saying, "Never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it's an opportunity to do things you couldn't do before."

The things he has already done to bring our once great nation to its knees are just the beginning. You won't have to wait long to be convinced that what I am saying is true.

A crisis is always the best time to try force through something different
This isnt US exclusive
e.g. it happens all the time in Brussels

Doesnt mean its right, but its that or dictoatorship ;)

To its knees?
Seriously?

The US is better off then any other countries

I dont think you realise the freedoms you enjoy

Recently I was talking to someone in Myanmar
He was saying how if he didnt vote for the ruling military jungta, that he would be beaten up, have his house burnt down or worse...

It made me realise how lucky we (those in US, Can, EU, ANZ) really are...

Yes, I realize, and appreciate the freedoms that we still have here in the U.S. I didn't say that our country has already been brought to its knees. I said, "The things he has already done to bring our once great nation to its knees are just the beginning." What I mean by this is the wheels are already set in motion for this to happen. It's just a matter of time. Obama's agenda to do so has been made quite apparent by his actions, and he's only just begun. Nobody is naive enough to presume that he is just an ignorant stupid man who simply doesn't understand what he's doing. On the contrary, he is a very intelligent man who knows precisely what he is doing.

And? If the government has already influenced the BBC... how would you know?

I wouldn't ;)
Yet I am struggling to find any evidence of interfence on their site, it all is impartial

What is "interfence?"

I know I'm just an ignorant, uneducated Christian conservative who is gullible enough to believe in fairy tales (Your words, not mine, in dozens of posts on this site. Which, by the way, is hate speech if I've ever seen it, yet somehow it is tolerated by the moderator, even though all other hate speech is not allowed, i.e; Smacky's gay pejoratives.), but I've never heard of that word.

What is "interfence?"
Sorry I meant interference
Try typing on mini-QWERTY on 2.9" screen while learning Irish essay ;)

I dont recall having called you ignorant or uneducated, or referencing fairy tales

And I dont hate you, I dont hate people easily or because they are from a minority group :)

And I dont hate you...

You tried to squeeze it out of me earlier in this thread by asking me if I believe the Earth was created in six days, but I wouldn't bite, because you have proven over and over that you have nothing but condescending disdain for Bible believing Christians.

Every time you say those things about Christians who take the Bible literally (unless plainly metaphorical or parabolic, and determined by context) you say it about me, whether you know it or not. Yes, it is hate speech. Would you like me to compile a list of every time you, or mpw, or rota, or SamsungVibrant or hakr100 has said something pejorative about Christianity? It would fill many pages.

Hate speech against Christians is the only form of hate speech that is acceptable among liberals, athiests, agnostics and diests, and it is a double standard. It's not the content of the vitriol that bothers me, because I am secure in my beliefs. What gets me is that this fairly recent term, "hate speech," which was co-opted, then propagated, by liberals as a way to quell dissenting opinion regarding anything they deemed unacceptable, applies to every race, religion and sexual orientation, with the exception of fundamentalist Christians. Liberals don't mind marginal "Christians," such as the vast majority of Catholics, for instance, because they are rather benign, but there is zero tolerance for a Christian who believes that every word of the New Testament is true, rather than a nice little collection of metaphors and parables with a bit of history mixed in.

Smacky was banned for using pejorative language against homosexuals, as he should have been, yet the most offensive language can be used against Christians and it is tolerated.

I don't mind being hated. The Bible tells us to expect it. Jesus said in Luke 21:17 and Mark 13:13: "You will be hated by all because of me."

I also don't mind your hate speech directed at me. What I do mind is the hypocrisy that is exemplified by liberals' selective and very convenient application of the term.

I wouldn't ;)

So, what you are saying is... you don't know if they've interfered with the BBC or not.

But you cannot detect any interference?

Can you detect any interference on stories that they've decided NOT to print?

No, because you aren't privy to that information.

The whole idea of interfering with the media is that the public never knows.

The same is true in North Korea, China, Russia, the US, and everywhere else.

Since we accept this to be true, that if the government interferes with the media then we will not be aware of it, then the only defense is to separate the two as much as possible so that it CANNOT happen to begin with.

Well, that's the funniest post I've read here in a long time. You think Obama has brought this nation to its knees? Consider the record of his predecessor, George W. Bush, who actually put this country in the crapper.

Bush:

* Attacked and took over two countries.
* Spent the surplus and bankrupted the treasury.
* Shattered record for biggest annual deficit in history.
* Set economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12 month period.
* Set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market.
* First president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.
* First president in US history to enter office with a criminal record.
* First year in office set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history.
* After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, presided over the worst security failure in US history.
* Set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips than any other president in US history.
* In first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.
*Cut unemployment benefits for more out of work Americans than any president in US history.
* Set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12 month period.
* Appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.
* Set the record for the least amount of press conferences than any president since the advent of television.
* Signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any president in US history.
* Presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.
* Presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.
* Cut healthcare benefits for war veterans.
* Set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.
* Dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.
* Most secretive and un-accountable presidency of any in US history.
* Members of his cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (the 'poorest' multi-millionaire, Condoleeza Rice has an Exxon oil tanker named after her).
* First president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt.
* Presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud of any market in any country in the history of the world.
* First president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation.
* Created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.
* Set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any president in US history.
* First president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the human rights commission.
* First president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the elections monitoring board.
* Removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.
* Rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.
* Withdrew from the World Court of Law.
* Refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.
* First president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 US elections).
* All-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.
* His biggest life-time campaign contributor presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).
* Spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history.
* First president in US history to unilaterally attack a sovereign nation against the will of the United Nations and the world community.
* First president to run and hide when the US came under attack (and then lied saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)
* First US president to establish a secret shadow government.
* Took the biggest world sympathy for the US after 911, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history).
* With a policy of 'dis-engagement' created the most hostile Israeli-Palestine relations in at least 30 years.
* First US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.
* First US president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the US than their immediate neighbor, North Korea.
* Changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.
* Set all-time record for number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling huge investments in corporations bidding for government contracts.
* Failed to fulfill pledge to get Osama Bin Laden 'dead or alive'.
* Failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the United States Capital building. After 18 months I have no leads and zero suspects.
* In the 18 months following the 911 attacks, successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.
* Removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.
* In a little over two years created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided the US has ever been since the civil war.
* Entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

How soon you conservatives forget, eh?

...Since we accept this to be true, that if the government interferes with the media then we will not be aware of it, then the only defense is to separate the two as much as possible so that it CANNOT happen to begin with.
There is no way to separate the media and government though is there? I mean the government can do ANYTHING covertly, 'they' monitor everything, 'they' are all knowing, 'they' can hide their concealment so you can't see it, 'they' are capable of anything.... except of course everyone can see the obvious mistakes they're making, and catch them with their trousers down all the time.

I always think it's hilarious how half the time people tear the government apart for making 'obvious' mistakes, and telling them how their policies are so flawed, yet at the same time they think the same government is capable of such huge deceit and cover-ups.; it's lucky that the argument against reason is always to claim that 'of course there's no proof, that's because they're so good at covering their tracks', it's a bit like proof of God, there isn't any because he's not there, you can't prove that governments have succeeded at the perfect cover-up.

A government with a healthy independent media can be a check to that power.

How would you know if a government official indicated to a news editor that they were likely to cut the budget of the BBC by half if certain stories were portrayed poorly?

It doesn't have to be a big conspiracy.

It doesn't have to be a huge cover-up.

It just has to be a simple statement by the people with the purse strings to the people who make decisions.

It's not obvious. It's not overt. It's just said, and then the editor has to make the decision about how to portray that story.

Individuals do bad things all the time and don't get caught.

But I'm sure that Britain catches ALL of their corrupt politicians as soon as they make an illegal agreement, right?

BBC is funded by TV License
If government even reduced funding by even 15% (by cutting license fee w/out seperate funding) there would be public uproar

I've said twice now that he is implementing policies that are designed to bring this nation to its knees, not that the collapse has already occurred. As to your list of Bush's accomplishments, I've never aspired to be a Bush apologist, and I have no wish to start now. I'm curious though, are you saying that because Bush was a bad bad boy, that Obama is justified in anything he may do? As in, two wrongs do make a right? Because my statement about Obama is what elicited your response. I never mentioned Bush.
