Everyone is different. What is acceptable for you might not be acceptable for someone else and vice versa.
The Moto X is an incredible machine.
It was the first time I could recommend a Motorola solution to colleagues and potential customers who are not on Verizon. If you are in the Trades in this area and work out of a truck the best coverage for you is US Cellular.
That's hard to tell. Right now my phone is a year old since release. I've had it 5 months'ish. Either way, I haven't seen anything on new flagships that have wowed me or made me think I need to have the latest and greatest.
I've had mine just shy of a year (9/25) and it's still perfect. There is nothing out there or coming out (rumors or real) that I'd think about ditching it for. Well. I mean other than Project Ara, I think I need that.
Will say that after almost a year, the thing is still just as fast as the day I got it. Very litttle added manufacterer's/carrier's bloat has been terrific on that front.
I believe I read somewhere yesterday that Punit Soni of Motorola said that the original X would continue to receive updates as long as the hardware can support the update.
