Limited 4g data and hidden menu problem

Thanks for your reply and the explanation of data vs signal. I have been thinking of moving to another carrier, heard Verizon is good for people like me who live a ways off the grid.

Still I wonder if there isn't some setting in the phone that would either make it 4g more of the time or else at least drop back to 3g rather than 1x. Apparently the Metro employee who was going to help me thought some adjustment could be made through the hidden menu.
I don't know now I'm even getting the rebooting problem so it might be time to trade up.
