Limiting Email Notifications

I am subscribed to a number of mailing lists from my GMail account.

These lists are fairly high traffic.

Every time I get an email from any of these lists I get a notification on my droid. Is there a way to tell it to not notify me of emails from certain email addresses? That way I could filter out the mailing lists from the notifications.

TIA.

I feel like I'm talking to myself here, but I think I found the answer. I'm posting it here for posterity.

GMail has the option of "Auto-Archiving" messages.

A filter can be created in GMail (from your computer) to auto-archive email messages sent to the mailing list. After this is done you will no longer get email notifications on your Droid for mailing list messages.

In GMail (in your computer's browser):

1. Click on "Settings"
2. Click on "Filters"
3. Click on "Create new filter"
4. In the "To" field, enter the email address for the mailing list (i.e. users@mylist.org)
5. Click on "Next Step"
6. Select the "Skip the Inbox (Archive it)" checkbox.
7. Click on "Create Filter".

Alternatively, you can set up a filter to automatically mark messages from specified email addresses as 'read' and they won't trigger a notification. That's what I've done for the mailing lists I'm on.
