Root Link2SD Plus

nps531

Well-Known Member
well today i decided to purchase the link2sd plus app from the playstore because i was definitely experiencing speed increase with my phone. along with being able to have a lot of apps open, with barley any ram available, and not really noticing a difference.
well... major let down. i don't know why but now the programs run really slow because it is loading everything from the sd card and i guess the read speed, at least on this phone, is garbage! i am going to mess around with it a little more tonight and then leaning towards a refund.
experiencing lagging and sometimes a unexpected error on some programs (soundcloud, firefox)
anyone else experience this? recommendations or advice before the refund?

if you were the type of person who wants to have a lot of apps, or uses a lot of apps, you could keep the main ones on internal, and or switch link modes while using an app would be a good idea.

The speed in which an app is accessed is controlled by the SD cards read speed. Not the phone.
I use a SanDisk class 4 (the best read speed found so far at 40MB/s) 16GB micro SD with "SD Speed Increase" set to 2048.

Link2SD' s paid version allows you to do a few more things than the free version. Keep it. The more you learn abut Link2SD the more you will appreciate the extra features.

With Link2SD, SD Speed Increase, and proper management of my free and idle RAM my apps open faster than with anything else.

Note: The class designation of a card only represents the write speed, not the read speed or quality. Some class ten SD cards don't even work well with Android OS.

Note: If you haven't already, update the Superuser app and binary.
You also need to install newest version of Busybox as well

You had better check the speed rating of that sd card nps531. I'm using a 8gig class 10, and link2sd+ is working just fine after a week of usage. I cannot tell the difference between "internal" and "linked". 1.1gig free internal. (This includes ALL of my media applications sitting in the "linked" category.)

Also, you had better ensure that you partitioned and set up the sdcard as per the link2sd+ thread instructions.

I hadn't even changed the cache to 2048 and things were rolling just fine.

With setcpu on performance/ demand, sd speed increase at 2048, this phone is fast as I've ever owned for the things that I do with it....and with link2sd it isn't a boat anchor that gets replaced in a month.

This tutorial I wrote for the LG Optimus V will work for the LG Optimus L70 as well.

You will need to set up Titanium and Root Uninstaller a hair differently by Setting up initially on the emulated SD then copying and pasting to the external SD card. Then Delete Titanium folder on emulated SD and Delete contents of Root Uninstaller>AutoBackup on the emulated SD. You will probably only have room on emulated SD for one or the other at a time (might even have to due a portion at a time for each one).

You also need to use at least an 8GB micro SD card (will allow you to create a 1GB ext4 primary partition)

Keep in mind you can only use no more than 20% of the actual space available on the SD card.

32GB class 10 cards can be problematic so stick to a class 4 if you can.

Thanks will have to check out my specs and I'll get back with everyone. Been busy past couple days.

Pny SD hc I believe class 4 ( if the class is the circled number ) the card was a gift and I never knew I would be needing it basically as a primary HD :). Should I purchase a new one?

Class number is good, what size is it? If it's 8GB make a 1GB partition, if it's a 16GB make a 1.5GB partition.
Let me know.
Also let me know what you where planning to use to make the partition.
I'll walk you through all the steps.

i downloaded the sd speed increase but it doesn't make it to where i can not notice if it is internal or external.

i already did the link2sd guide a while ago so i do have a partitioned sd card with 1.5 ext2 the rest on fat32 both as primary on a 16gb card. sd card is like i have noted before, PNY SD HC 4.

new SD card maybe?

Ok. Try formatting the partition to ext.4 instead of ext.2.
This stock ROM works better with that format, plus ext.4 is better in case of power glitches like pulling sd card before unmounting, or pulling usb cable before unmounting, etc.

Try that format first. You will have to re-create the mount script.

I would unlink all linked apps first, before pulling sd card and re-formatting.

some apps i could move to sd card in the task manager but it doesn't have a sd card symbol in the link2sd app. when i am moving them back it is not giving me the option to move to sd card again. it didn't allow me to move to sd card until i installed the link2sd and restarted it had the button enabled to let me move it.

okay i formated the card and re partitioned it 1.5gb ext4 the rest fat32 both primary in the process of re linking seeing if it made a difference. i seen that i had made my ext2 3gb before and it said no more then 20% that might have been the cause of some problems we will see shortly

Here is what I did (May sound crazy, but my goal was to maximize free RAM).
I used App Manager lll to move all apps that didn't have an X on them to the external SD card.
Then I used Link2SD to link dalvik cache of those apps.
Then I totally linked all other apps except widget apps and those that directly controlled a system function (plus one app that just doesn't play well linked or moved to sd card).
This seems to give me more free RAM

Try linking all apps you can. Then reboot and check free and idle RAM.
Try my idea next. Reboot and check free and idle RAM.
See which one gives you the most free RAM with the least idle RAM and post results.

Edit: I use "Quick System Info" from the PlayStore to check idle RAM as well as free RAM.

i test it by linking all of facebook to the sd card and if it runs like it does on internal or even close to it it would be a success. but it is sooooo sloow the message box even comes up asking if i want to wait or close the app

my goal is to have the sd card run just as smooth as internal. because according to you guys it should be. and i dont have a problem with my ram my phone runs quick the app when i link internal data dont.

okay i have the appmngr 3 open and some apps have X on them, the task manager will let you move to sd card. you don't want to move those apps?

this is weird because some apps that say phone only did have the option to move to sd card at one time. UGH!

Lets step back a bit.
Could you run an SD speed test. Use "SD Tools" from Play Store. You should be in the high 20MB/s to low 30MB/s. If below 20MB/s you might need a new card.

Facebook is notoriously slow no matter where you put it and needs to be on the system to function properly.

Also, give this a read: http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6628177
It will help you set up App Manager lll properly to move apps to the external SD.

All apps with an X or that are on the phone according to App Manager lll are going to be totally linked with Link2SD. Those that you moved to external SD with App Manager lll are going to just have their dalvik cache linked with Link2SD.

Something seems not to be right, but we'll figure it out and get your apps moved and opening much faster (facebook might have to stay on the internal)

Edit: Almost forgot. Could you go to System settings>General>Apps>Running and list all apps you downloaded that are running.
Also, tried SD tools-doesn't work on KitKat. Sorry.
Will need to use A1 SD Bench. It showed my external as my internal and vice a versa. Just make sure size is correct then run test. Mine tested at only 18MB/s read speed so if yours is in that range yours should be ok.

17mb read 5.74mb write

and i got 414mb free with about 54.13mb idle on startup with everything linked mostly but the daily apps. apps i will use periodically i will unlink before use if it is a major issue

Im not sure. If you say Facebook lags on sd then i won't use that to test. I have been going through apps and having them linked to the sd then running then un linking them then repeat to see what is the best for the app. Soundcloud i can have everything linked while my current caller id app i can't have the davix and internal data linked. There is a difference i can always tell if the app is linked. Thank you for everything though.
