I notice on my Evo Shift, when I link two or more contacts in the People application, the phone numbers for all such contacts appear on each contact's page. That is, if I have, say, 2 phone numbers for each of 2 contacts, and then I link those 2 contacts, then each of those 2 contacts will have 4 phone numbers now (the 4 phone numbers of those 2 contacts). Why would this be useful at all?

Some of my contacts come from Google, some from facebook and some from Outlook. If I have a business contact from Outlook and they are also a personal contact from facebook, I'd rather have one linked contact with 4 numbers than 2 with 2 and try and figure out which "Joe Smith" is business and which was home.
Ah. I see. So it's not for linking people (like all in one family), but rather, linking more than one instance of a person in different venues.
Right ... what you're talking about is groups.
