linux phone anybody????

just curious if anybody would be interested in it. i know @MoodyBlues might be......maybe?

there are a few phones out that i had no idea was out. i stumbled upon this video:

it is only $149 bucks, but is not for newbies from the looks of it.

thoughts???? might be fun to learn linux.....yes?
 
It wouldn't much use to me in it's current form, mainly because I need mobile payment capabilities on my smart-phone.

Will it be available in the USA?
Like the Pinebook Pro, the PinePhone is being assembled and built in China, but it will ship from China to (almost) any country in the world when it goes on general sale next year.

So it could be delayed then? Last time I heard about Foxconn, they had gone over to making surgical masks and not making iPhones, etc. .

Also one hopes that they'll still be around next year, especially given that this is a very niche and geek device.
 
I don't give a damn about mobile payments - I've no interest in letting any of these companies know about my purchasing or giving them a cut of my spending, so don't use those services. But the specs are exceptionally low, and it's too damned big to interest me. If I want something more secure I'll stick a different OS on my current phone.

Ha ha ha, thanks for thinking of me. :D I CAN'T IMAGINE whatever gave you the idea that I might be interested in anything Linux. :o :thinking:

I haven't followed your link yet, but I was aware of some past Linux phones, specifically Ubuntu's. While I do think it would be fun to have a device with full access to its Linux guts right out of the box, as opposed to having to root an Android to achieve that, I don't think I'd use one as my daily-driver.

No, I don't use or care about mobile payment capability or any stuff like that. I'm just too enmeshed in the Android world now to step away from it. I've paid for hundreds of apps over the years, and wouldn't want to lose use of them. But I'd totally get a Linux phone as an adjunct to my Androids, and have fun doing real *nix stuff on it! Maybe, over time, get it working as I really need...
 
i wonder if you can create a shell within the linux phone and have it run android......probably not. if and when it is available here in the US barring any coronaviris setback, i might consider this phone. it is pretty cheap and might be a good stepping stool for me to learn more about linux.
