Root Linux(s)

Just wondering if anyone here has tried to build and run/replace Android with a full Linux distro of any type. I tried a few times myself, tho the "hooks" were blocked (I think due to stock kernel and SELinux).

Anyone even try this yet (or am I the only one)? Has anyone found a work around for the buffer/boot hooks falling to run properly?

Purely curious. My old Note 3, had no issues with this. The Volt throws errors like its a job...

For those curious... I've tried Ubuntu and ArchLinux ARM with both as a direct buffer feed/override AND a complete replacement. Neither wanna boot at all. I suspect the stock Kernel is to blame but want others thoughts.

No I started with a guy on XDA and pitched in on his solution.

Relationship diagram may explain, it's in there. ^^

But you need http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loop_device

Very interesting... I think I found a way to keep me busy tomorrow during this blizzard here in Southern New England.

I will post results. This is deff a good start.

Thank you. Thought I was loosing my touch for a second here. Lol

Haha thanks. Unfortunately, I deliver pizza. Slow, safe driving in about 2 to 3 feet of snow at some point for me. : /

I am looking forward to trying this tomorrow. Very exciting starting point.

Just a small update on progress...

I started doing some research based on the link above and found that this Kernel has loop device commands enabled (good bet it can use loop devices). But it basically refused to mount anything at all.

So I took a deeper look and it appears that all terminal apps (possibly busybox itself?) Cannot see the external_SD folder/partition. It insists it doesn't exist. Now trying this from internal SD is borderline impossible due to how little space is available from start.

Has anyone else had these issues?
