Android newbie alert! Thrilled to recieve my Galaxy Note last night - have a question already...

I have only downloaded a couple of APPs, and their icons appear on the pane however in the top left hand corner there are a whole row of download icons and APP icons. How long will they stay there for? Are they supposed to be there?
