Make sure theyre still linked with wherever they got the pictures from and you should be good. I saw that issue with a couple contacts, but relinked them and everything was gravy.
You're going to want to go into your application settings and delete data/cache in your messaging app. Then you need to re-accept terms for market followed by re-syncing your Google contacts.
