Help "Loading" in text messages

kallison

Lurker
When I go to text messages, "loading" appears for a long time before it displays the messages of whom I'm texting. The only way I can view them is to keep the "loading" screen active for 10-40 minutes until it finally appears. What can I do to fix it?

I tried deleting pictures received, thinking it may be slowing it down, but I can only delete one at a time then I have to go back and start from the loading screen again. It's irritating and very inconvenient. Anyone else have this problem?

I used to have this issue. The only way I figured out to get around it is to set a limit on how many text messages the phone keeps. Seems if you have too many messages stored, it has trouble loading the cache, and thus the "infinite" loading screen. (notice how you can always view every message in a conversation instantly)

Does this happen in 3rd party apps like Handcent sms as I have never come into this issue... I have 4 people with over 3000 texts in each convo... along with another 30 odd people with a couple of hundred...

I know Guitar texts more than most small countries so this may not apply to him but kallison how many texts do you have in your inbox you think?

cheers

I have this same problem with my girlfriend (I have over 3 thousand texts from her) I can view everyone else texts but hers. I installed go SMS pro and that works fine.

I have prob over 3k messages as well. I tried deleting the whole thread twice but it's still all there and didn't delete. Messages to other ppl work fine or come up quicker than the contacts I'm having problems with.

try going into settings and delete all. any you have saved will keep and it'll delete from oldest to newest, so you can try letting it delete some then stop it.

And go or handcent are ways around it because if you notice, they don't load up all the texts in a conversation at once, they have a view more button after you scroll back a ways. So that could be your solution if you don't wanna delete anything, OP

I tried the delete all suggestion but it still didn't do anything. My messages were still there but I could not access them. So I got the go SMS pro and now have access to my messages. Thank you for recommending it! I'm not very app savvy, I know the download was free but will I get charged or every message I receive/send, or is it still covered under my usual unlimited text plan? I kinda zipped through it and didn't read the fine print.

Thanks everyone for your help! I would have never known otherwise :)

no, you shouldn't get any additional charges other than the usual texting stuff. the way SMS clients work on android is they replace the duty your built in SMS app does, aka sending and receiving texts
