Root Loading Rom on Temp ROOT

Lurker
I have done the 3 minute temp root and I'm liking it. Wanted to know if you use the temp root can you load roms and test those with out doing a perm root? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I dont think you can. I believe you need to be fully rooted.

If your looking for a full root there are a lot of ways to do it one which is here:

XDA

Another way provided by ashykat via private conversations...

At first I just used The Unlockr's method which is using Visionary. (How To: Gain Permanent Root and S-OFF on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G / HTC Glacier | TheUnlockr) I got temproot that way and then tried to get S-Off, but when I rebooted into the bootloader I was still stuck on S-On.

I did some research and realized the reason for that was because I had an updated bootloader, so I followed these instructions using the gfree method (How To: PermaRoot and Unlock Your myTouch 4G - BriefMobile) and just skipped step 6 because I was already temprooted. After following those last instructions when I restarted and made sure I had S-Off, I rebooted then opened visionary again, unchecked temproot on boot and then ran Attempt perm root.

Everything went great, I went into terminal emulator and typed su to make sure I had access and I did. It was very simple, much easier than back in the day when I rooted my G1.

I have not done this way since I am still scared to root permanently. I think the only way i will do this is if i have someone helping me step by step via vid or something and or there is a one button root. I am good with computers but the cell phone not so great. Thats why i did the temp root version. I felt it was safe.

On a side note: The temp root seems to be very hit or miss. Upon reboot down the road the root may not stick and if thats the case a complete redo to factory is the only way via holding the volume down and power button. I was running the temp root for a long time since birth of the mytouch 4g till i had the issues of the boot loop (never fully booted and stayed at the my logo) a few weeks ago.

Hope this answers your question

devil is right, you have to get s=off for roms to flash. Temp root only allows apps and such to get root access. Dont flash a rom without s=off, you could mess things up.

Thank you guys very much for the input. I'm getting into rooting and wanted to know the correct ways to go about things. Thank you for the links as well for the help with rooting. One last thing have you guys ever used a rom called ultimate_glacier-ota-eng.blackdroid.3.3.0? Just wondering if there is a better one out there if I'm going to go to the full root and doing 2.3.

Okay here is an update. I did have to follow those 11 simple steps that dasudevil posted and it worked great. Install that rom I was talking about and its working fine. I would like to see if there are any other roms that you guys would suggest. I was hoping to find with with swipe already in-bedded. I know you can download it but just looking for an all inclusive rom that is 2.3.3 or higer. Thanks again.

Here is a list of all the roms.

MyTouch 4G Roms

This is a list of ALL roms available. 2.2 and 2.3. This has been updated as of 4/18. Its all about how you wish things to look.

Glad i could help with the root. Just wish i had the balls like most of ya. LOL

dasudevil you should really do the perm root!!! Overclocked it and the device is super fast. Using the UD rom right now and the internet is blazing fast. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to let me root her 3g.
