Location Services & Security - What Do I Need To Know?

Hi Everyone,

Having a phone with location based services and GPS navigation is new to me. I know there are a lot of security concerns and geotagging in photos that you take on your phone. I wanted to learn what I need to know to protect myself as much as possible.

I see myself using navigation and weather services, as well as other general GPS services. On my Droid 4, I have the following:

Location & Security Settings
- Google location services
- Standalone GPS services
- VZW location services

Currently, everything but Google location services is turned on. Obviously VZW location services would pertain to VZW-specific apps and VZNavigator. I'm not sure what the other two control/impact.

Can anyone give me a quick rundown and any tips or advice on location-based services and GPS tracking?

Thank You

Well, geotagging is a big one for me. I don't want digital pictures that I upload to FB or other sites to be able to be traced back to where they were taken. I guess I'm just new to having these services and i want to make sure that I understand how they work, what kind of tracking info is saved by Google/VZW (if any).

Geotagging isn't controlled in that setting. I have everything turned on but my pics aren't geotagged. Its in the camera settings. The settings in that menu only pertain to what servers would the phone be getting data from to get your location for the apps that use location services.
