Help Locations keeps popping up!

Newtonwp

Hi, I keep having this problem with my "Locations" App popping up.

Now, before anyone redirects me to a similar thread they may or may not have solved, I am aware of all of these threads. I have been googling this for the past four days.

I am just really pissed off at this bug, It just happened without warning, keeps popping up every 10 seconds, it devours my battery, I can't even send a text message without Locations exiting it.

I really hope someone can help me, I have tried this App, that tells the phone not to go into docking mode. I have an Advanced app killer, they both do bugger all.

So does anyone know anything?

I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

I have been experiencing the same problem for a couple of weeks now... Resetting my SD card did not work. Is there perhaps a way to remove Locations completely from my phone?

I tried that, but you can only delete it's data. I plugged my Phone into my Laptop and went to the folder "Android" there is a folder for google maps and I just went for broke and renamed the folder. I just put .disabled at the end.

Now the problem still persists but not as much as it did yesterday.

I have exactly the same problem and can't work out why or how to get rid of it at all. SO ANNOYING!! Anyone have any solution? I've tried 'soft reset' that doesn't work, tried to delete the app, it won't delete. Any ideas??!

Hi all,

I solved it!!

I had this exact same problems for weeks. Locations kept opening AND speaker always on. It was driving me mad. I tried all the other things suggested on the forums. Cleared out data folder. Took out battery. installed some map switching app. Fail. Fail. Fail.Eventually I discovered it was simply caused by a dirty USB/charging slot. If some dirt is touching a certain two pins the phone thinks you have plugg ed in a car charger and triggers Sat Nav/speaker. The solution is to just carfully scrape out the slot using a pin. Mine LOOKED clean but in fact had about 2mm of compacted grime/pocket fluff which was shorting out the connections.

Haven't had any problems since. Phone back to normal.

YAY!

Hi

The problem is still persisting i have deleted the location files many times and it then says, 'location files are outdated or missing', and that does not stop popping up. I have restarted the phone loads and i have also cleaned out the dirty charging areas as suggested and nothing works. Its really annoying because i cant use my phone.

Please help!

The solution was provided by Smarty Party in this thread, on August 23rd 2012.

A dirty USB contact will cause this behaviour. Clean your USB contact, and the phone returns to normal.

Just a comment.
I am usually in Belgium and I have never had a "50" Location SMS. Last week I was in the UK and my Desire was flooded with them; all I could do was turn the phone off.
Of course this was roaming. The provider in the UK was mostly Vodafone, so probably this is a provider-dependent issue ?
Thanks for this great board.

The solution provided by Smart Party is the only one that has worked for me till now.. Hope it sticks..
One doesn't realise how dirty the USB slot gets..

Thanks a lot..
