Lock Screen question

I just got the LG optimus L9 with Ice Cream Sanwich on it. I noticed that the lock screen has short cuts on it however if I activate the pattern or password security the shortcuts disappear from the lock screen. Is there anyway around this? Thank you.

I think the idea is that the short cuts are useable direct from the lockscreen. Once you've unlocked the phone, you can use the regular shortcuts to access the same apps.
