Lock screen question

Android Expert
Without rooting, is it possible to set up my screen to time out whenever I choose (30 seconds, a minute, etc) but the screen not to actually LOCK unless I press the power button? This would be so nice when I listen to music in my car. That way it would charge faster than the screen being on but I wouldn't need to unlock it constantly so I could use a pin, pattern, or password without getting distracted from driving.

Thanks!

Hi

Set the screen time out in DISPLAY section of settings (I use 30 secs)

then go in settings to LOCKSCREEN and set

Lock automatically to 30 minutes (max time available)

Lock instantly with power key to on (ticked)

I dont think you can prevent locking after 30 minutes..

(I am assuming the menu is similar to a note 2)

I would do this but I don't have the option "lock instantly with the power button". This isn't a Samsung device. Believe me, I owned a Galaxy S4 more than a year and this HTC has a completely different menu.

The HTC Security (PIN/Pass.) Lock Screen timeout limit is 15 minutes max. No power button option.

The stock HTC Music player has a lock screen widget that can be used for simple forward, backward, play/pause functions. On the lock screen, prior to password or PIN entry.

Also, when using the stock HTC Music player, if you have Music set as one of your quick launch icons (the 4 application shortcuts on the bottom of your homescreen and lockscreen), you can bypass password and PIN entry and shortcut into Music.
Password/PIN is prompted for when you try to back out of Music into the phone.

Toggle for this can be found within: Settings -> Security -> Unlock Music automatically

Which carrier are you with? Did they include HTC's 'Car' Application in your software?
The 'Car' Application has convenient Music controls for the stock HTC player. Car used to have the option to bypass password and PIN entry, but it looks like that bypass option might be gone now. Shortcuts to other applications can be added within Car.

You might have to look at applications in the the Play store for other options, especially if you are using a Music player other than HTC's. Maybe someone out there has a suggestion or two.
Skip Lock or Delayed Lock might work if you are using Bluetooth in the vehicle, however, beware the application permissions might be excessive.

Great idea but most times I'm using Spotify. I do believe it has lock screen controls. I'm not a big fan of lock screen widgets though. I guess this means what I want is impossible without rooting and installing a different ROM. I guess having the option to lock the screen ONLY when pressing the power button is too much to ask. See this is why anything other than swipe to unlock is such a pain for me. Once they make mind controlled devices that have artificial intelligence, I'll be set!
