Lock screen status bar

I miss having icons at the top of the lockscreen. Before Lollipop stomped all over it, I had a battery icon and unread icons for texts and emails up there which I could then swipe down to see more info. All it says now is "EE". And swiping down just displays a few mostly pointless toggles. Invert coloUrs? Fat lot of use that is! :D

Does anyone know how to get that back?

I'm not trashing lollipop by any means. I like the new app switcher, and chrome tabs showing separately. Don't like the new notification shade and have switched off all lockscreen notifications. Big white blocky things.

The reason you aren't seeing any notifications you are alluding to: you have turned off lock screen notifications. Now, instead of showing the icons in the top on the lock screen, they show as full notifications. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to reenable the "icon" style view on the home screen.

I get that. They've swapped the simple and discreet icons for huge ugly white blocks.

Does anyone know of an app which might restore the icons up there?

Like I said, not that I know of. Maybe you can look into alternative lock screen apps that can do this?

While I love the way notifications are handled on android now, the design of the white blocks needs some tweaks. It's pretty ugly.
