Lock screen without turning off backlight

Just a neat trick, but not sure how useful it really is. If you want to lock the screen without turning the phone backlight off, you can do so by placing a finger on any of the four "touch-sensitive" buttons and pressing the power key. The screen will stay on, but the device will lock.

It's up to you to find a practical purpose for doing so. I just though I'd share the feature (bug?) with you all.

Here's a practical purpose: You probably just prevented me from shortening my lifespan about 3 years. When I'd lock my phone I kept wondering to myself why the stupid thing would just go to the lock screen and the screen would stay on. Now I know why. I'll have to avoid hitting those buttons while I press lock, I guess. Thanks for clearing it up for me! :)

That's exactly how I figured it out. Annoying, if you ask me. But one man's annoying software bug is another man's feature... or something like that.
