Help Lock Screen won't work

I activated the lock screen with a password, and it doesn't require a password to unlock. I turned it off and back on (the password) an still nothing. I restarted the phone, it worked once but then never again, any idea why this is happening? Help is greatly appreciated

You forgot to change the time after which it activates itself.

I think the default time is 20 minutes, that's how it was on mine. Go to settings then location & security and scroll down, it's called "security lock timer"
