Lock without security

HTC m8 running stock android.

Is there any way to lock the screen instantly so it doesn't register inadvertent taps, but only set the pattern lock after a certain period of time?

For example, if I push the power button, I don't want the phone to wake up without sliding to unlock. After 5 or 10 minutes, the pattern lock will also be required.

Under Settings > Security there are two options which should enable you to accomplish what you're after:

• Automatically lock - the amount of time after the screen turns off that the device should lock.
• Power button instantly locks - uncheck this to prevent the device locking as soon as you press the power button.

Thanks. But when I do that and press the power button to turn it back on, there is no swipe to unlock screen, so when the phone gets put in my pocket, the power button gets hit and then sometimes buttons on the screen get pushed.

If the pattern lock is off, I would like a swipe to unlock screen.

Under Screen Lock there should be the option, "Swipe".

That should be what you're looking for.
