Help Locked CDMA LG vm696 Looking to change Rom

Got error messages in yellow:

"Check sdcard for GOTA update : /sdcard/update.zip

Finding update package in sdcard...

no image found in sdcard
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)"

Also, in blue at the top of the screen:

reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Can anyone help, I'm new at this but tried so many things for many days. I tried Rom manager with Rom zips and rooted the phone but got the above errors along with a no verification signature error.

I rebooted many, many times.

I've seen others who updated their Roms. Their screens had no error messages and more options to select from (maybe seven or more options, I have 4 options). One of the options they have: wipe dalvik. My selections are blue in color. My screen has the above 4 lines (reboot system now, apply update from sdcard...) in blue and the error messages below the blue messages, in yellow.

My problem seems to be not being able to get a reboot screen without errors:

One MOST IMPORTANT thing. My phones are locked and I asked Virgin Mobile to unlock them which they agreed to do on February 11, 2015. More than three weeks later when I called to have them unlocked, they made every excuse not to unlock them. One phone is over 90 days since connected so they would not open it. The other meets that criteria but they made an excuse not to open that one also. So I have 2 paid for phones that I can't connect with another carrier because they will not unlock them. I'd really like to make use of these phones, can anyone help or point me in the right direction. Shall I give up and get new "opened phones"?

Maybe I need a new "update.zip" file. I tried to open it but could not. I found some code that is said to be the code of the update.zip file but I can't verify that because I can't open my update.zip. I can modify this code if I had some help. Shall I cut and paste the code?
