My boyfriend tried playing a joke on me and setting my password on my phone to "poo" from his samsung note 4 ATT

Apparently the shortest password you can have is 4 characters, so somehow the Note 4 bypassed this measure. I have already submitted feedback to google, but I'm wondering if you all know of any way to change the password to anything else.

I already tried:
pooo
poo(zero)
poo9
poo"
poo(space)

I really just do not know what to do. I would really like to avoid formatting the device. If there is any way to root the phone while it's locked I would consider it, but would rather not if I could help it

OP here
He reset it by logging into my email and accessing my device under guest mode with his Note 4. When i go into android device manager to try to reset the password to something longer, it says that "Oh, you already have a password on this device, so we won't add or change the password from here.

Ive taken the SIM card out and put it into a different phone. Willing to do whatever it takes to get my photos and business information off of this phone safely.

I take it that this method can't be used to reset it back to something longer? If you repeatedly enter an incorrect password, do you not get an option to use your Google username/pwd?

The Android Device Manager will let you reset an existing password, I've done it.

Others report that you have to try several times before it lets you.

Last I checked (and I'm not at my pc so I can't right now) ADM won't let you set too short of a password.

Is it possible that boyfriend used -

https://findmymobile.samsung.com/login.do

Go to protect device (left hand side) and then click "Unlock screen".

Supposedly this will also work even if he used ADM.

I got that from http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...d-it-using-android-device-manager-but-it-clai

This is the boyfriend. I did exactly as she posted under my phone. I took no special steps. I just put three characters and it accepted it for reasons I don't understand. When I go to the computer I get the message that a password can not be less than 4 characters, but I do not get that message on my note 4 ADM app.

If I use ADM to try to change the password from my device, I get the message now "Lock requested.....Could not lock" but the message will change
I did not use findmymobile.com, but I will try it.

The original message I used was "YOU ARE POO NOW" so that popped up when you opened the screen. Now I changed it and the password to "numbers" and "12345" respectively. Now the message says numbers, but the password does not work. And the result is the same on either note 4 or desktop.

She never activated a samsung account on her device, so that idea is out unless there is a way to do it while it's locked.

Here is what it looks like from the desktop
But now her phone says "the password is "android" but again, android does not unlock the phone

I'm not 100% sure about the registration process, I don't use a Samsung.

Can you get to the emergency call button, open the phone that way, attempt to register from the pc, and complete the registration if it involves Samsung sending a notification to the phone?

It seems like the registration process has to happen by adding the account to the device like you would add an email, and then clicking a button that grants samsung special permissions. I don't think there is any way to do it while it is locked.

I tried doing that exploit as listed but I can't get it to work. I think she has the latest updates for the S3 which removed most of those exploits, but I can't even check what version she has.

I really don't wanna have to format her phone. She'll be heartbroken. Is there really no way to plug a USB into the phone and just suck all the information out of it like a movie lol. Even if it bricks the phone thats okay as long as we have our daughters photos.

Excellent.

And where it says to get the Android development tools, save time and effort and just get the Mini-SDK (sdk-tools.zip) -

http://androidforums.com/threads/adb-guide-updated-2014-11-11.443072/#post-5389081

Unzip, it creates the sdk-tools folder, shift+right click on that folder, open Command window here to get started.

Adb drivers required, links are in that thread.

Okay, so its been a while I know. I got the phone into download mode, Heimdall detects the device but when i try to get the PIT file it says initialization failed.

I was able to get the PIT file once, I know my recovery.img is identifier 18, but when I tried it again (computer rebooted) now I only get this error. I tried checking some other resources but I'm having a hard time deciphering what I'm reading

When I tried the command line
"heimdall download-pit --output i9000.pit --verbose --no-reboot"

I get the response

Control transfer #1 (2,3,4,5,6) failed. Result: -9
ERROR: Failed to receive handshake response.
ERROR: Protocol initialization failed!

Okay. It looks like whenever my computer restarts and reconnects with the device, it replaces the drivers with the defaults, which cant be detected by heimdall for some reason. replacing them with Zadig WinUSB makes it work.

Flashed and Uploaded the clockworkmod file 6.0.4.7 touch recovery file renamed "recovery.img" to identifier 18.
When I press home+up+pwr the screen looks just like the stock screen

"adb devices" in the mini sdk returns no results.

Powering on the phone brings me back to the lock screen
Um. Kinda feel stuck.

I mean the cmd said

Uploading RECOVERY
100%
RECOVERY upload successful

Ending session...
Rebooting device...
Releasing device interface...

Am I missing a step maybe?

EDIT: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SO I DONT LOOK LIKE A SELF BUMPER

I put the recovery.img (the renamed clockworkmod file in the heimdall folder. Was that maybe not the correct location?

Should I have downloaded and flashed the "Recovery" and not the "Touch Recovery" ?

Update: I flashed it again using the non-touch one. It's def different. At this point I'm just posting these uupdates to help anyone else in my situation who doesnt understand so well what they are doing.

the clockworkmod recovery is blue, go to backup and restore. Hit the one that says "backup to /sd" even if you dont have an SD. it will go into the phone storage

Failed on /data. Trying again. Need to reflash it.

WOO! I got it onto a SD card as a TAR file, but when I try to extract it with 7zip it says zero leading string trails or something.
Winrar says that it is damaged or improperly formatted?

Alright, so for the sake of redundancy I backed up the phone twice with clockworkmod recovery. I have both copies on my computer. Neither will open or extract. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Is something wrong with clockworkmod or winrar/7zip? or android?
