Help Locked S3 from metro pcs?? HOW TO FIX?

I got an s3 offline for $100 that had a broken screen. I fixed the screen and dialed *228 and they're telling me the phone can't be connected cause it has a lock on it? They mentioned something about the previous owner might have claimed insurance on it and got a new one rendering this one useless. I would like to know if there is a way to work around this? I heard there is an option to change the ESN on the phone making it useable. If theres ANYTHING I can do to make this work please help. I'm willing to pay someone, I don't want to be out $150 on this phone and not even be able to use it. Thanks!

It might be possible to install a donor ESN to your device, though I'm sorry I can't help with that. Such a process is illegal in some areas, and so it is mostly forbidden discussion on our forums.

Yes. Run. And learn to call in serial numbers to check before purchasing ANY phone. Their is like a billion charges just in ESN alone. Federal. FCC. Samsung. Insurance company...... Need I keep going?????
