Locking bootloader wipe

Hi! I am trying to lock my bootloader with
Code:
fastboot flashing lock
and it says it will factory reset my phone. I need to lock my bootloader because it is triggering SafetyNet and I do not want to wipe my phone. How should I do this? (Google Pixel XL marlin running Android P)

There's no way around it. A bootloader lock/unlock will always factory reset the device.

I believe there are other ways around safety net using magisk. I haven't personally done it myself since I don't use Android pay, but I know that Magisk had an option for it. I'd have to look it up though because I don't know it off the top of my head.

Ugh. I tried rooting with magisk, but got stuck in bootloop. I might try it again though, but I don't want to deal with rooting my phone. I had to wipe to unlock bootloader, flash stock Android after bootloop, leave my phone sitting for a while installing apps, only to discover that I can't use Google pay in stores, even though multiple people have said locking bootloader doesn't require wipe.
